Anyway, yeah, Helstar - Nosferatu is a fucking landmark in Metal history. Also, all their other albums are worth looking into, except for "Multiples Of Black."
Also, DESTINY'S END - BREATHE DEEP THE DARK. Trust me.
Though this is out of print and hard to find, one of my favorite melodic speed metal releases is an "oldschool" release from a band called Powermad. Their only full-length release entitled "Absolute Power" was released in about 1989 or so, but the production is very good so it doesn't sound dated at all. It combines the fast and heavy chunky riffs that were popular in the day like pre-Black era Metallica, but they offered a vocalist with a clean (clean in oldschool terms as in not much rasp in his vocals) high vocal style similar to some of today's powermetal bands.
The release is long out of print but far from rare. I have seen it often on Ebay and such. I wouldn't bother to mention it if it weren't an awesome release. There is not a weak song on the disc and few bands incorporate that style these days.
Yes, Powermad! Absolute Power was awesome. I don't know where I ever learned of them but I got it on cassette first years ago, then CD. He's right they sounded awesome, especially in the early 90's!
