Mercyful Fate and King Diamond

Is the music similar between these two? Are there differences?

I just got Abigail II: The Revenge and really like it, esoecially the vocals, can any-one recommend what I should get next for either band?

Well, of course the bands are quite similar. But at the same time not. Mercyful was the first band of the two and is more straight-forward heavy metal. Check out the two classic Mercyful Fate albums Melissa and Don´t Break The Oath , two amazing records. King Diamond started out a short while after Mercyful Fate, and the first King Diamond album, Fatal Portrait , is somewhat a continuation from Mercyful Fate. While Mercyful Fates lyrics were satanic, the lyrical concept in King Diamond are horror stories. The best King Diamond records are Fatal Portrait, Abigail, Them, Conspiracy and The Eye.

King D's "The Graveyard" I thought was a very good album also. But, you really can't go wrong with any of his stuff.

Don't get House of God, I didn't really like that one, instead look at his older albums like Abigail.

I really really really recommend you getting Them that is my favorite KD I have out of Abigail, Them, House of God and Abigail 2. I also think it's his best concept album.

I really liked House of God...."Black Devil" just rules.....get the classics first, though

Mercyful Fate! All of their albums are great, and the early ones are the best. King Diamond -- his solo works are not as captivating, but I really like "The Graveyard".
