So I have been getting a bit better at placement and settings but still need a lot guidance.

Here are 2 30 second clips from a song that I am doing. I have no eq or compression on the guitars. Drums are just BFD (no eq or compression) I'm trying to get a guitar tone similar to Disturbed, Within Temptation, Breaking Benjamin, etc.

Here is just the guitar:

Here with Hardcore Bass and BFD

I used a Mesa Dual Rec with a Mesa Cabinet. Micd with a sm57 straight very close to the center.

Can anyone please help me on rating this guitar sound and possibly helping me in getting a better tone??:headbang:

Mic closer to where the dustcap meets the cone, and maybe back off the high end on the amp.

Have you tried turning the presence off completely, and bumping the highs up a bit? That can really help with the typical Recto top end fizz.

I don't think this tone is bad or anything, suppose it just depends on what you are after. I find tubescreamers make a huge difference with rectifier's, try one out if you can. It will tighten things up a ton.

My only other advice would be to record something, play it back and tweak the settings after until you have it how you want it. Keep it at, sometimes it takes a while dialing in the tone you are looking for!

I am using steven slate drums and Back with using some of your suggestions:

Still need help in obtaining a strong disturbed, 3 days grace type guitar sound. Which of the two clips is better sounding? I feel like the 5150 clip the guitars sound muddy.

Here is just mesa boogie 3rd channel modern

And here it is 2 tracks mesa and 2 tracks 5150

Still need advice. I am running the guitars to a group channel with slight eq and the mix buss has gclip, some eq, and voxengo elphant.

what is the guitar and the pickups you are using ??

that could be the reason of your dissapointement. or not...
try with a tubescreamer.
if its not, track the guitares 4 times. get the gain down a bit, if its sounds muddy.

when moving to 5150 be sure, to not moving the cabinet and mic. just plug the head.

it could be muddy, because its not tight enough :S

Your second clip sounds better to me...

I think it could use a SLIGHT bit more presence in the tone, but other than that, it sounds good.
