Meshuggah-Nothing

arc, keep at it, and you will come to like it, I guarentee. It is slightly formulaic, but if you think about it, almost all metal is formulaic. I mean, take death metal, which is a whole genre. It is like growl, blast beat, and really fast guitar. But, if you look past that, you get a ton of uniquness. It is the same deal here, except they are the only band doing it, so that one ups nearly all of the bands out there.

I heard they had to rush Nothing because they only had two weeks before Ozzfest. It truly was just a rushed, recycled sound.
But Catch 33 kicks ass. Even it is all just one piece, it's a mind blowing peice of work, especially Dehumanization.

Catch 33 sounds like a recycled 'Nothing' which is recycled. I use to dig the band but those two albums are awful.

Catch 33 is one of the worst things I've heard in awile.

Arc, if you can't come to terms with the apparent simalarity between songs here, try Destroy_Erase_Improve. All of the songs on that album sound more different, and you can notice the experimental aspect more. It really helped me appreciate chaosphere, and I think it will do the same for you and nothing. I want to get nothing next, and then mabye we can actually be talking about the same thing....

Oh, and I read this amazon review of nothing, and it explains a lot of things that they do, like false triplets and wierd stuff, check it out.

People don't listen to music for "false triplets" or "note clusters" or shit like that. They want it to kick ass.

I could personally care less about all the different time signatures Meshuggah could jam into their songs. If it doesn't sound fucking awesome, then it ain't worth shit.

Having said that, Meshuggah sounds fucking awesome to me.

I got nothing finally, and I can attest, it kicks ass! I still don't get the time signature shit and I never heard those false triplets in the amazon review, but does anyone really understand the time signature stuff anyway? The solo in stengah just turns me on, and I love the fourth song where they go quiet for a long time and then scare the shit out of you (especially if the volume is way up). The vocals are fucking awesome, way better then chaosphere, he almost sings two notes at the same time. The only time I ever heard anything like it was when this one girl screamed. God, I can't wait to get "I".

What exactly was Nothing recycled from?

Catch 33 and I absolutely rule, but I guess if you only listen to blastbeats the concept of "groove" is way over your head.
