1. Tony Iommi
2. Dave Murray, Adrian Smith and Janick Gers
3. Jimmy Page
4. Kirk Hammett and James Hetfield
5. Glen Tipton and KK Downing
6. Slash
7. Daron Malakian (System of a Down)
8. Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman
9. Marten Nagstrom and Fredrik Thordendal (Meshuggah)
10. Edward Van Halen

Let your outrage begin. Especially when you consider that their top ten has 16 people.

I used to love metal hammer when i was in highschool.

they've kinda always done it like that tho... classic band = best guitarist, even if there's two (or three) of them.

at least it's not a bunch of people from 'new' bands that I've never heard of. I'm sick of that happening.

and Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman are in Slayer.

Who cares if they're shit or not, they're in Slayer.

No disrespect to Dime, but i get the impression you mean he should count because he *is* dead.

Dime should be on this list, dead or not. Why does Hammett keep getting on these things? He is not that great a guitarist. And why is it so hard for these people to separate guitar "teams". Adrian Smith is a better guitarist than Murray and Gers put together, but they always have to keep them as a team.

Kirk Hammett is a very under-rated over-rated guitarist.

I mean in the fact that he gets called over-rated so much, that he's actually better than most people think. Great solo writer, and I think that makes up a lot to what makes a great guitarist.

Alscho, Adrian Smith is easily the best guitarist in Maiden... especially in terms of solo writing.

No. He should be in the list, because dead or alive, he was demonstrably better than some of the others mentioned.

And if you look at the original article, you'll see it's a list of "Riff Lords". If Dime wasn't one, then who is?

Regardless of his death, he should've been right up there.

Thanks for the extra info, Strat. If it's a list of "riff lords" then Murray and Gers shouldn't even be on the list. I dare anyone to listen to "Cowboys From Hell" and "Vulgar Display of Power" and tell me that Dimebag didn't write killer riffs. If this is a riff-lord list, why isn't Ritchie Blackmore there? What a crap list.

Indeedo.

Yes, Dime had it all. A riff master, awesome technical ability, killer solos, catchy melodies. Biggest guitar hero of the 90s.
