What band led you into the metal underground?

Mine would be Opeth. About two years ago i bought BlackWater Park purely out of curiousity and have bought all their albums since. Since then i can not stomach mainstream music what so ever except for a little tool and a perfect circle which isnt entirley mainstream.Since i bought BlackWater Park i have over 200 albums and my latest find is Rapture-Songs for the withering absolutley amazing.

I randomly bought Cradle Of Filth - Dusk and Her Embrace and it turned me off to extreme metal for a while, but my friend played the century media firestarter compilation for me which closed with Nectar. None of the other songs impressed me at all, but I immediately bought Orchid, Morningrise and MAYH.

Dark Tranquillity

I actually never listened to "mainstream" music... I started listening to Iron Maiden when I was 9 or so, and have constantly delved deeper into the metal ground since. The first Death Metal album I really liked was Edge of Sanitys "Purgatory Afterglow".

Fear Factory got me introduced to "harsh" vocals, but what actually got me into the metal underground was In Flames and Tristania. I bought "The Jester Race," and "Beyond the Veil" based on Amazon.com reccomendations and because the sound clips on the site sounded interesting. It's been an upward spiral since.

Well, I first got into Metallica and Sabbath, and then to the rest of the'Big Four' of thrash, and it went from there. Opeth brought me into the growling.
