Well I've been listening to Slayer for as long as I can remember but the band that made me start liking growl vocals and was my 'gateway' to underground metal was Emperor.

Sepultura- Morbid Visions/Bestial Devestation, which was just something I picked up seeing I liked Chaos AD, and I did quite like it, but I didn't really look into death metal any further. About a year later, Deicide- Once Upon The Cross is what got me into death metal.
