Metal

I think what he means is Opeth is the only metal band you listen to, or only Opeth and a few other bands. No I am defiantly a metal head, and more and more of one as time progresses...

Well, "sorry" (?) to say this, but I've been metal since I was 13/14. Well, but I do think (and you've proved it) that you don't need to be in the metal genre to like Opeth. As Steve Wilson said on the documentary on lamentations: There is something about Opeth that really has nothing to do with metal at all.

Well, I dont know if lots of people are adept to like Opeth and not metal, because Opeth is on such an extreme side of metal. It's not just like your dad liking one of your Metallica songs. But there are exceptions, yet most of those people you are referring to only like Damnation or other clean songs.

Nope im pure metal me! lol! but U can tell that opeth know bout the 'non' metal fans as he refers to it on the Dvd! I think that everyone can love opeth as there is summit in it for all! I know that every person who has heard them likes them!

Please don't mention Steve Wilson and Opeth in the same sentence, it's akin to ripping my heart out of my chest then repeatedly trodding on it.

haha wow dude, that's a little MUCH. personally, i love everything opeth has done w/wilson. i also love their previous works. wilson didn't fucking say, "ok guys, DO this. uhh, NO NO, that's no good." he made suggestions and enhanced what they ALREADY had, generally. if mike fucking thought steven's input for an idea sucked, he'd be like...No, i don't like that, let's not do it. case settled. mike seems to take nearly all of his help and advice, but it only enhanced the cds, as they all are great, IMO.

also, while enjoying metal as my primary, i also love other types of music. sometimes i wanna just relax and listen to more alternative type stuff, but usually i listen to the beatles after a dose of metal. i like some of the craziest metal, but i like slow stuff as well. however, i think the metal wins me over more.

It's not that Wilson said it. It's just that they did it. Peter's comment "We weren't sure if he'd like it..." about Deliverance on the DVD says something. I'm not saying his influence is always bad, but I say they should just make the next album by themselves. Mike could write/sing fucking brilliant vocal harmonies on Still Life without Steven Wilson too, and I don't want Opeth to sound anything like Porcupine Tree.

Anyway, so what if IMO all of Wilson's contributions were great, deliverance? You have no grounds to say "haha wow dude, that's a little MUCH" if you play the IMO-card. The post had all too much "I, I, I" for comfort anyway.

I regard myself as about a 50/50 split between prog rock and metal, which makes sense as Opeth is my favourite band and they embody this split perfectly.
I also like bands like Nightingale, Katatonia, Unicorn, etc. on the non-metal side, but bands like Bloodbath, Dissection, Edge of Sanity, and Marduk that are definitely metal. Sometimes I enjoy one a lot more, sometimes the other.

I recently found out that Mike growl is probably the only one I can handle, but I love it and Opeth is my favorite band. Opeth is also probable the only "extreme" metal band I listen to. :loco:

I thought Steven Wilson was a good addition to Opeth, thats why Opeth rocks lotsa different styles you know? hey always change I like that cause it doesn't get repetitive.

As for listening to Opeth but not metal... well Opeth brought me into death metal really, (and I thank you guys for that!) I like to have a wide taste in music but I do love metal. Switching from Opeth, Vader, Satyricon, Dimmu Borgir, some Cradle, Morbid Angel and then switching to some blues cause I love the solos in blues... Opeth uses a lot of blues solos... I'' shut up now I'm talking way to much and I think you would all agree :P

:worship: Hail Opeth :worship:

Yeah exactly :)

Mostly Opeth is the only metal band I listen to... although I like Arcturus a bit as well... mostly I listen to electronic music, hahaha.

Even though I'm not a porcupine tree fan I love everything Steve Wilson did with Opeth.
