I like Metallica.....and so do others here.....If thats a crime then lock me up.What makes someone a sell out anyway? Megadeth did a cd called Risk...It was more mainstream...did they sell out? The Iron Maidens made a cd...did they sell out? Ac/Dc sold more copies of Back in Back than any other rock cd...Did they sell out?
Maybe they got tired of playing metal...Maybe they wanted to try new things...Its human nature.
One could even say Iron Maiden sold out......After all they did Ozzfe$t this year...Now talk about Corporate....Lets face it anyone who works as a musician is doing it for money..Anyone who puts thier cd and shirts out thier for sale is doing it for money.It's amazing how some people are so retarded.

I respect those who still like Metallica. I really do. However...Metallica lost my respect a long time ago after The Black Album. Then the whole shitstorm with Napster happened, followed by the release of one of the most disappointing metal albums in history. That was the last nail in the coffin for a once great metal band as far I was concerned.

Who knows? Maybe their next album will a surprising return to form...or not. :Spin:

There is no problem with you voicing your opinions. By now we are all aware of them. And yes, this is a Maiden forum. It is not, however, a Maiden/anti-Metallica forum. All I ask is that you extend a little respect to those of us that do not share your feelings.

IM sorry to say that as long as I am on a forum I will never not give my feelings. This is who I am, I hate Metallica for what they have done and the fact that you still like them shouldn't mean I can't voice my opinion that they sold out. Its all opinions, don't need to get so bent out of shape over how I feel about them, I am just 1 pee on in this huge world, no need to take me that seriously

Its not about being Mainstream its about CHANGING your over all sound and image to a more comercial vibe to appeal to the mainstream to sell more records. If they continued to play Metal and became "mainstream" there is nothing wrong with that. Metallica completely changed their sound, look, even band logo to sell records PERIOD. You can try to justify it and say 'they are just growing and changing naturally' BULLSHIT is what that is. I give them credit for brainwashing people into believing that. They are great businessmen but a SELL OUT band and have no respect in the true metal community. They are everything against what METAL is all about.

It was a terrible CD and yes one could say they TRIED to sell out, but it doesn't matter it was so terrible that nobody in the mainstream would buy it! I thought Megadeth tried selling out with "Symphony of Destruction" I still am not a fan of Megadeth since Rust In Peace which was a classic!

No and No. Neither artist changed their music and appearance to appeal to a completely different audience to sell more records. The fact that you stick to your roots and people dig it its respectable, that is exactly how AC/DC and Iron Maiden became successful, the audience conformed to those bands they didn't conform to the audience


Maybe they got tired of playing metal...Maybe they wanted to try new things...Its human nature.

This is what Metallica has made people believe, "they are trying new things" "they are maturing" "They are growing musicians" I love those ones. Atleast you admit here that they stopped playing metal, why do they continue to use the name "metallica" if they aren't "metal?"

Iron Maiden does it because they are a proud heavy metal band. The fact they make money doing it is amazing. Iron Maiden has never compromised their sound or image to conform to mainstream America. Iron Maiden keep putting out their own original form of Metal record after record.

Sticking to you roots could also mean your afraid to step out of what is easy for you to do...To me making what everyone else wants to hear is selling out. Do I love the new Metallica......not so much....They were told they sold out when they wrote Fade to black.

I really dont think they did it because they are a proud metal band.With metal making a mainstream comeback...They thought "Hey why not do this and expose our music to a new generation of kids.........and make some fat bank".

Last night I went & saw Hammer Fall(great swedish Power Metal) at one point in the show they started playing the begining of "2 minutes to Midnight" the place went nuts.All of a sudden they stopped & ripped into "Enter Sandman" & played it up to the first chorus.The whole place was Booing,giving them the finger & the thumbs down sign.Remember this was in the San Francisco bay area!Metallica's home & the locals here absolutely hate them.A few years ago I was at a Megadeth show & in between bands some up coming concerts were announced one happened to be a forth coming Metallica show & again the whole place Booed at the very mention of their name.
Metallica have done only 2 good things in their recent history:Getting Robert Trujillo a their bassist was a most EXCELLENT choice.He's more in lines with Cliff Burton in his shear technical ability,a bass playing GOD!!When "St. Anger wa sabout to be released they played a week's worth of shows at the Fillmore for fan club memeber only & on 2 of those shows they had Death Angel open for them.
I actually thought there was hope for them having an old school thrash abnd open for them.Actually DA's singer Mark is best freinds with Kirk & they used to be roomates.I have a freind who works for Mertallica & I asked him why the hell doesn't Metallica take a band like Death Angel on tour instead of gay ass Linkin' Park & Limp Dipshit?He told me that they could've done a tour with Iron Maiden & Mercyful Fate but if they did,they'd ahve to play smaller venues & only old metal guys with bad hair & denom jackets would show up.They wanted to make money & have more teenage girls in the audience.As far as money goes Haven't they got enough millions??
In closing I do want to say I don't want to be a bad guy & hurt the feelings of some of you here taht actually like thos egusy but I do need to set t he record straight on how these guys have disowned their heritage,turned their backs on their original fans & did all the things they swore they'd never do.
One mor ething on that pathetic MTC Icon(where I officially laost he last ounc eof respect & hope I had)Lisa marie preslye(yeah the ex-Mrs. Michael jackson)introduced tehm along with Snoopdog & Avril Lavine.What's wrong with that picture??

Nice to see another HammerFall fan in the house.

It's really sad what Metallica$h has become. At least Death Angel & Exodus are true to their roots and still put out some great thrash metal. Hell, the last Megadeth album was a million times better than St. Anger.

In no way am I saying you shouldn't express yourself and voice your opinion. I just don't think its neccesary to bring it to our attention every time Metallica is mentioned unless the purpose of the thread is to bash them. If that happens, blast away and I'll avoid it entirely.

Let me try and make an example for you...

You are on a bus full of people traveling cross county. Every time a Mustang goes by, one particular person stands up and say "I hate Mustangs! They used to be classics and now they are just plastic trash!". Then they go into a 10 minute rant about why they suck. At first you can agree with some of what they say, as there are some valid points made. However, you think they are pretty cools cars in their modern form and like them quite a bit. But after a while you dread seeing anything resembling a Mustang because you know that person going to stand up and do it all over again.

Maybe that will help you realize what I am trying to say here...

Thats the thing, it was the label that had them change their image, their sound, their logo. The band went along with it and it made them and their label millions and millions. I am not saying it was a bad business move it was brilliant, And it was brilliant the way they made some people believe it was just 'natural' and 'maturing' They are now multi millionaires good for them. The only people that lost in this deal were the original Metallica fans that were in it for the music not the money.

I know Systematic,nice guys but too alternative for my taste.they were signed to Lar$' label & had a bit of a buzz going but fizzled out & disbanded last I heard.
What was lame about those Fillmore shows was I was eating at Tommy's Joint(I eat there all the time)and a whole bunch if nerds with Metallica$h t-shirts were in there hanging out hopping they'd meet the band cause they heard they hang out there.Maybe they did in the 80's but I've been eating there for 10 years & never seen 'em(not that I try to look cause I've met those guys more times than I care to count)all though I hear Lar$ & Kirk once in a blue moon do drop by there.Some guy came up to me & asked me if I was ready for the show(I guess he assumed I was going based on how I look)and I said "Hell no, I'm over Metallica!"He got kind of offended & asked me to at least give their new CD a listen.I told him I had my hopes up until I found out they were taking those crappy rap metal bands on the road with 'em.He agreed those were some lame bands but again suggest I still give them a shot(wich I did,test failed!)He sarted to go on how he was a life long fan & seen them X amount of times & I told him "my first Metallica show was at a club called the Kabuki on the RTL tour with Armored Saint & Death Angel.I saw them several times with Cliff did you?"He was speechles & walked away(I got freinds that top me in seeing vintage Metallica shows)
I saw this cute redheaded girl wearing a homemade hat & shirt with her own Metallica$h logos.I started a conversation with her & commented how the only Fillmore gig I'd be interested in seeing is with Death Angel opening.And she was all "Who are they?I've never heard of them!"I almost flipped out.I said "Is this what the world has come to?"People used to know who Metal bands like Death Angel were.I named off some other thrash bands & it was like takling to an iranian grocer.I'd say most people who are into Metallica are not metal fans.Out of all the Metallica fans in the restraunt I was the only long hair there!

HAHA, thats funny. Yeah the reality is that most fans of Metallica (The ones that buy up the majority of their albums) are Non Metal fans. Its really funny how far Metallica has distanced themselves from the Heavy Metal world. The reality is though, that not many peopole really give a shit about the issue its only die hard old school metallica fans like you and me that truly get angry about what Metallica has become. People like you that have seen them live when they were a Metal band and were raising hell are the ones that really understand just what has happened with them.

I love when I am at a baseball game and "Enter Sandman" comes blasting out of the loudspeaker, Just one time I'd love to hear Slayer blasted and see how people react

I have all of metallica's cds...I must not be into metal....what a load of shit. Some of us were not lucky enough to see Metallica play the "vintage " shows..Some of us dont live in San Fran. or were even old enough to get in.
I pretty sure that I cant even name one Death Angel song besides a song called "I'm bored" and I wasnt that impressed...But hey I'm not metal enough to listen to it I guess.
I listen to Slayer,Exodus,Megadeth and Anthrax...but I guess I dont like metal
As for Systematic...yes they did disband..But I must say when they played live I was sold..I was thinking damn Metallica has some work cut out for them....

I was in the studio at Bay 7 when they recorded their last album, and was on tour with Cold when Systematic was the opening band. They put on a Cool show and are nice guys (Kind of weird guys though lol)
