Sad But True - Stand out track, but rather tellingly, always sounds better as a cover version by someone else.

I honestly HATED St.Anger, as nearly everyone did at the time, I truly did. BUT, I kept listening to the CD, many many times, and I did find some quality tunes within the disc, Invisible Kid, Sweet Amber, Frantic, St.Anger, are all pretty good. Now I came to this conclusion by ignoring the criticism, if one just heard the criticism and let that decide for them, oh well, they're idiots. Listen for yourself man, just because it was on MTV or something doesn't mean it's shit...

Enter Sandman - An average track. Lacks utter depth.

Holier Than Thou - Thrash by numbers. Vapid.
The Unforgiven - More mirror straddling psycho-crap.
Where ever I roam - Bringing "tedium" into the mainstream
Don't tread on me - Showcases a style of songwriting to be perfected over the "loads" (i.e. dull)
Through the never - One off kilter riff does not make this quality
Nothing Else Matters - Pass the fucking sick bag, vicar
Of Wolf and Man - The worst metal song about lycanthropy ever, and it's up against some stiff competition.
The God that Failed - I quite like this, oddly.
My Friend of Misery - boring.
The Struggle Within - as above, only more so
Does that answer the question?

"Holier Than Thou" is still a good song and some of Kirk's solos on the album are great.
Overall though, it's a pretty "meh" album.

My mate, who still holds out hope for the new Metallica, brought round the download live tracks on CD today (soundboard recording).
Without fail, the worst tracks on it are the Black album tracks, and yeah, that does include the new one.

Do you still hate me for what I said the other day?
Stormwatch said:What is Kirk's playing like on that? Last time I heard a live bootleg of them or saw them live on TV he couldn't pull off even the slower solos he was fucking terrible.
Carcassian said:Paul has a lot of faith, but then again he's a baptist.
There are some decent songs on there, if you don't expect much. Compared to most good metal it's shit, but it's good music compared to nu-metal...Stormwatch said:No, people said St Anger was shit because it clearly IS shit. Just because you sat in a darkened room, naked, with nothing but a bowl of gruel and an Ipod with St Anger on it for three days doesn't mean there are some "quality tunes". So you managed to convince yourself St Anger isn't that bad - well done. But I say it's the biggest pile of fucking shite ever and most people agree with me, because it's TRUE! :zombie:
