This is one of my favorite albums of all time, and in my opinion, surpasses even Master of Puppets. To me, it symbolises Metallica in their prime, what you want someone to hear when you have them listen to Metallica.

This is a truly classic album. From the deep, emotional and slow pounding "Fade To Black", to the soulful and epic "Escape", to the fast thrash classic "Creeping Death", each and every song is individual and unique, and has its own strong points. It is definitley not one of those albums that sounds the same at the core of every song.

The guitar work is good, but not great, although the album features some great solo work, and truley memorable acoustic work on "Fade to Black". I never was a big fan of the drumming for Metallica, but this album shows it at its best. The bass work is great as well, featuring the late and great Cliff Burton, an excellent bassist. As for the vocals, they are amazing, and shows James Hetfield in his prime.

This is a classic disc, and an essential purchase for any metal fan.

The guitar work is great. This is THE early Metallica album. AJFA was a continutaion of RTL.

AJFA is no continuation of RTL... AJFA is a joke compared to RTL ... first of all .. on RTL Kirk Hammett was getting lessons from Satriani... at least that is what he said... therefor his playing was more modal on that album. you can hear the difference from Kill Em ALL solo's to RTL solos.. but on AJFA he is a little less modal IMO and more pentatonic... and wah wah up to his cazoo lol ... and albums after that as well.. anyways AJFA is no part II of RTL .. not even close... RTL is pure perfection..no flaws.. AJFA has plenty flaws... RTL is easily their best album as the OP mentioned ... :worship:

Master Of Puppets is their best album. Ride The Lightning is a close second though. And Justice For All is desperately trying to be as good as either of them, but falls well short due to the 'no Cliff' factor.

I think Ride the Lightning is the best Metallica album -- though I don't listen to them anymore. The problem is that Master of Puppets completely overshadows this release and no one will take a moment to appreciate it, except those who explore their music.

Honestly, I don't see what is so good about Master of Puppets. I enjoy a few songs but as an album I think it is quite boring.

Nice. I agree.

Fuckin Oath, its certainly got some of metallicas strongest numbers. AJFA is still my fav; so hard to pick apart their first 4 though

metallica has been in my top ten bands since i was 11. RTL is by far greater than any other album except MOP. MOP is great but RTL has one of my favorite guitar solos of all time in the title track. This album is the perfect album. if only metallica could clone it.

Seek and Destroy may be the best Metallica song. When I first heard it I couldn't believe how killer the riffs were. Creeping Death would be my second favorite song. The beginning gets me everytime.
