"Creeping Death" actually has its seed in an early Exodus song that Kirk Hammett brought over called "Die by His Hand".

Also, lol at people taking the "theft" comment so literally. I'm sure the purpose of the thread was not to diminish Metallica's music. However, the fact of the matter is that they, like many bands at the time, were very active in the developing heavy metal sound of the late 70s and early 80s and borrowed ideas from other bands.

Also, who gives a fuck if a band "stole" a riff. There isn't anything necessarily wrong with a band paying homage to their influences and a few "stolen" riffs don't constitute a blatant rip-off.

Riff recycling is only bad when it is done a lot (see: Aria and a number of other bands from nations that defecate on the concept of intellectual property) or when it's a very distinctive riff and used in the exact same way as the original.
