Im looking at it this way ...

Rick Ruben did the classic slayer stuff, the production sucked but the songs were great.

NO im not comparing Metallica to Slayer there is no contest, BUT ... I will say Rick does have a tendancy of pusing the people he works with to their limit.

I think the production is gonna be shit, but the songs decent. Im not expecting puppets. Im expecting Garage Days part 4 -re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-hashed-re-re-re-re-re-done-re-re-re-re-re-retire already,

If its good ill be happy. If not o well...

I figure when chinese Democracy comes out Metallica will play metal again.

I hate to admit that I am actually a little excited to hear new Metallica. I can't decide whether or not I want to like it. Part of me hopes it's terrible.

They have you by the balls really because everybody was looking forward to St Anger due to the hype and it being "Metallica's new album" so everybody bought it...found it wasnt great, now they are releasing a new one which everybody is going to buy regardless just to see if they have actually cleaned up their act since SA! That being said, torrents and the likes are on the rise these days Thats what I think anyway Ill still be a sucker and buy this one I think, if this is bad I think everybody will realise this was pretty much their last chance to prove themselves worthy of their own status.

Greg Fidelman mixed it. He's worked with Rick Rubin on RHCP, Slipknot, System Of A Down, and some others. He was also the primary engineer on the new Metallica.

You summed up the epiphany I had just before I read your post. I was feeling little bit of hope, but even after listening to the teaser track, it sounds like something one would throw together just messing around while trying to think up something of substance. But still, I might take a listen of it if a friend buys it.
