After wanting to get away from my 57 as a primary mic, I decided to try out my KSM27 which I haven't used in awhile, a few minutes in I realized I should do a quick shootout among the three.

Unfortunately I couldn't get any pictures of the mic because my camera couldn't pick it up in the low lighting.

I am really liking the 27 and 57 combined.

Gear Used. SD-1 > 5150 > Avatar 412 w/ v30s

Mix:

KSM27
SM57
Beta58
KSM27+SM57 Blend

Guitars only:

KSM27
SM57
Beta58
KSM27+SM57 Blend

Excuse the sloppy playing, after getting into it, I didn't feel like doing being shacked up recording all day, I might do better recordings later.

Hmm that KSM sounds pretty brutal by itself! In this case I would pick the sm57 over it, but I could imagine that KSM-tone working very well with certain projects. The combination of the two is pretty cool as well.

The beta58 didn't really do anything for me here though, it seems a bit too smooth for my taste.

Thanks for the shootout!

The 57 definitely cuts through the mix, but I like the way the ksm sounds more than the 57. The blend sounds really nice as well!

Could you describe roughly where each mic was placed?
