I got an ATM650 the other day so decided to record some guitars with all my suitable guitar amp mics to try some blending.

I used Jaymz' brilliant Deliverance DI pack for this (thanks Jaymz)
Zip contains stereo drum mix, bass DI, guitar DIs and left and right tracks of
SM57, Audix i5, MD421, E906, ATM650 so this covers most of the usual suspects for amp micing. Royer 121 is next on my list.

Used ts808 into 6505 into Recto cab and Focusrite ISA828 pre in ISA110 impedance mode. No post processing.

I used pink noise to place the mics so there would be consistency and spent time making sure phase is good so any mics can be combined without any phase issues.
Mic is pointed at dustcap centre then rotated off axis until the high harshness is gone.

The DI tracks can be used to reamp and try other mics if you want too.
Unzip and import wavs into a session and it will all line up.

Anyone looked at this yet.
I am loving the 421 and 906 combination.
I would never have thought these 2 mics together would work so well.
They seem to have great dynamics and no mid mush.
My new AT650 is sh1t on an amp but will probably be great on a snare.
I will try it out next session.
I am also preferring ISA pres to my APIs lately.
Here is the Slaughter of the souls cover with 421&906.
TS808>6505>recto cab and ISA828 pres.

I don't think the 57 comes across very well in this comparison actually. And the 421 solo'd seems to have a resonant peak in the presence region. 421 & 906 is definitely a killer combo though!

All I did was open the individual files in Foobar, and here are my findings.

SM57: Sounds like a 57, which is slightly top fizzy. Still sounds pretty good though, nothing pokes out to me besides the high end. It sounds like it would fit a mix well.

421: The mid peak is lower on this mic, and it sounds like it would definitely be cloudier in a mix. The fizz also seems to be at a higher frequency, and it sounds pretty ugly to me :\.

906: Sounds kind of like the 421 except a bit darker, so it's definitely more preferable.

ATM: Had the most nasty mids out of 'em all IMO, did not dig. Very cloudy.

i5: I liked it! It's like the SM57 with the mids cut out, and it would fit well in a mix.
