Michael Jackson is about to die.

In all seriousness, Michael Jackson was my first idol and the reason I feel in love with music and wanted to make music and perform it.

I vividly remember listening to Thriller daily on my parents' record player, along with Air Supply "The One That You Love" and some Chipmunks Christmas record because that's pretty much all they had that was in english.

I was obsessed with Michael at one point, had my mother make me a glittery sequin glove, wore a red leather jacket in the dead of summer and pretty much listened to nothing but him at one point of my life. I even dressed up like MJ in a project in second grade where we were all statues in a wax museum and when the teacher pressed the imaginary button on my back I came to life as michael, talked about my life and then did a song and dance.

I consider him to be the best pop star, singer, dancer, songwriter, entertainer to have ever lived. Dude should have ODed in 92-93 and gone down a legend like Hendrix, James Dean etc. People that are extremely talented and unique cannot last in this world for long without becoming horrible people I believe, they are just different from everyone else and can't function like regular people so it's better that they die before they have a chance to become freak shows.

Just like people will remember Marlo Brando for being the ultimate badass and movie stud, not a fat mess, I hope MJ will be remembered more for being the best to ever do it instead of a fucked up cryptkeeper-looking kid toucher.

peace to da god.

They were never able to prove he touched the kids. Civil cases aren't used to judge guilt as very little evidence is needed to convince 12 morons you wronged someone. I think he was a giant manchild that scared parents too much and they saw dollar signs.

the fact that he settled almost ever time and paid huge amounts of money to the families doesn't really do much to help his claims of innocence though.

Either way, he was obviously very abused as a child and grew up under extremely difficult circumstances and pressure, add to that unprecedented success and stardom and it's pretty hard to turn out to be anything else but a complete freak by normal standards.

I've been saying this since 2003: I did not believe he touched children... this is so absurd.
I definitely think he was a crazy sad person with fucked up issues, but there is no way he touched children in that way...

Hey, RIP MJ.

I agree Kawen *nod*

He was weird, for sure, and hanging out with kids the way he did was strange, but I never believed it was a sexual thing.

Pure speculation, but I never held to the "fiddling of the children" allegations either. I think he simply suffered from some psychological problems, which had a myriad of possible causes, and as such had problems understanding the "normal" and "correct" forms of interaction with children, at worst he was a bit creepy, but a paedophile, I don't think so.

Anyways, as with all those that die tragically young, he'll be remembered for his genius - in this case music and showmanship and so whatever was happening in his head the past 20 years is somewhat irrelevant now.

Dude this gets weirder and weirder every time you post...we're so much alike it's scary.

Thriller was the first album that I literally went fucking nuts over...I think I was like 5 or so. I wanted to be MJ so bad...he was God to me when I was a lil' tyke. I copied all his dance moves, watched all his videos, cut off my sleeves on my shirts like in the Beat It video, and literally broke my record player listening to it so much. I bought tons of stickers of him and put him in my sticker book when I was a kid...I was nuts.

When the video for Thriller came out, I was scared of my own shadow at the time...everything scared me. Yet, I STILL watched it because I thought it was cool. After it was over, it literally scarred me for at least the next five years. The werewolf scene gave me nightmares to the point where I would cry myself to sleep at night...YET I STILL LOVED THRILLER. The zombie part I always thought was really cool, especially when they were coming up through the floorboards. It was just something about that damn werewolf scene that scared the shit out of me. To this day, the scariest/coolest monster for me is the werewolf.

I used to watch Friday Night Videos back in like 1984 and dance in front of the tv when Billie Jean would come on and try to copy his moves. My parents would secretly laugh at me in the background but I didn't care...MJ was God. I even remember starting to read the comic Bloom County because I was thumbing through my mom's book and saw the guy imitating MJ in it. I then realized that Bloom County wasn't only cool, but quite possibly the funniest fucking comic of all time. Just looking at Bill the Cat still puts me in stitches.

MJ made some great music that introduced me to what real fanaticism is. I guess you could say he planted the bug of passionately loving music in me...with his finger . It's pretty disturbing what has happened in the following years, and it's a little sad that nothing he's done since Bad has interested me one bit.

For me, before there was metal, there was Michael Jackson.
