Michael Jackson is about to die.

America has to create history, for it lacks any substantial amount at the moment. Jackson is another part of that.

The Iran situation and North Korea deserve the air time.

My greatest memory of Michael Jackson is some Moonwalk arcade game I used to play at the mall.

edit: also I enjoyed watching that claymation segment of the movie of the same name. It reminded me of the California Raisins, which were at the peak of their popularity around that time I'd imagine. I had a stage for them which was a slice of bread that would play "I heard it through the grapevine" when you pressed a button.

I would argue that this country has plenty of history, but most evidence of it was destroyed by settlers who thought (or wanted people who were in the market for land to think) they were sweeping aside savages. Thus Americans today either don't know or don't care about it.

But, that's beside the point. What's really important is that JACKO IS ON HIS BACKO AFTER A HEART ATTACKO

...was genocide of a native people owing to nothing more than hubris.

Also, the U.S.A has little history, the North American continent has much, I'm sure.

derek - about America creating some history. We have a long (for us) trail of glorious (translation: bombing people) historical significances (like iraq).

A few years ago I found myself becoming quite enthralled with the history of Asia, primarily China. I've also always had a great fascination with Northern European history. I think it's because they HAVE history.

In the modern USA, we consider 'history' to be about 200 years old. In many other parts of the world, people know their actual ancestry for longer back than that. Temples in China centuries old prove that the US's concept of history is stupid. I can't even fathom something structural older than 100 years, because it just doesn't exist here.

Arg...I been there. Xi'an, tomb of the first Emp.:b
That snake thing looks cool.

Umm...no, it's actually Cahokia in Illinois.

And also of course the modern nations of the Americas have a much longer history than 200 years once you include colonial times. I don't think I need to say more since this is shit that people should already know from public school.

It is sad that he's dead because he had some great songs and did have an affect on society but some of the stuff I've seen people saying is crazy, some people are freaking out wayyy too much. I like his music too but when people are breaking down over the death of someone they don't even know (regardless of how much influence he had) its pretty weird.

I was drunk-referring to the simplified fact that United States history, from the point of view of its majority inhabitants, is only a few centuries old, maybe 600 years. Think about how old Native North American cultures are, or Persians, Mongols, hell even Russians. We just have a piss poor history of infiltration, rape, and sacking in general. But we did it all lame-o style unlike the Northern Europeans before us.
