Hi folks!
I´m currently setting up a small studio here in my apartment and need some tips on recording guitars for heavy music. I´m using Cubase 4 with a Macbook Pro, and think I well get a TC Konnekt 24D or a RME soundcard ( need 2 mic pre´s). I´ve got a Splawn Quickrod and a Nitro, and have ordered the Grendel Dead Room with a small block 25 speaker.
So I´m looking to buy 2 mics for recording with the Grendel.
Most likely I´ll get an SM57 (industry standard).
Any suggestions to what mic I should get that compliments the 57, and to what soundcard I should get ?
I play heavy aggressive music with low tuning and are looking for a supertight and punchy sound with strong mids.

Thanks in advance ;)

Bump.
Anyone here with any experience micing cabs for heavy music ??
Is the SM57/MD421 the way to go ?
What´s Sneaps favourite mic combo ?
Other suggestions are truly appreciated! :headbang:

SM57 rules, a lot of people would recommend the i5 and I got one to try, but so far haven't been impressed, I prefer the upper mid boost of the 57. 421 rules, ribbon mics rule (search for "ribbon mic on guitar" or something like that, a recent thread in the "production tips" subforum).
