Hi everybody i would like to know how to mike my bottom snare to get a great sound and what mic to use, for the front snare i will use SM-57. For the bottom a TLM183, but i would like to know what is the better angle and distance to do this double miking. I will put another thread for kick drum.
If someone get some photos and sound clip it would be great, i will also use a Digidesign Control 24 for pre amp and a HD 192 converter.

See you all later

Snare wire I think...

It's the snare, that's where the drum gets it's name. Original snares were known as cat-gut snares (they more often than not pig/sheep guts but for some reason cat-gut was the name given to them), the only difference between an old rope tensioned snare and a tenor drum (military term for a cross between a kick and a tom) was the snare on the bottom skin.

BTW, can you tell I taught/ran a marching band in my early teens? :Smug:

Why the Neumann on the bottom instead of another 57?

I personally don't align the mic on the snares. I'll normally move it off to the side of 'em a bit.

yeah i think the neumann is better than the 57 for the bottom snare, what about a C414 too ???

in fact the sm 57 is better for metal you're right metal knigdom

i have try the 2 today
