Did you talk to Grey Skies? I know the guys & can contact them to see if they recognize any part of the scenario or remember seeing it at all. and yeah, those are expensive. I just play a jcm800, and it was cheap. Which may have something to do with its tone and breakability...

Well, I wouldn't say I hate on it, but it could be more reliable. I usually like the tone, but it's somewhat inconsistent. More bottom end would be good, but I usually drive it with a Nobels Overdrive pedal ($45!) that adds some booty to it.
Used to use a Digitech RP-1 in front of it for the first 2-3 yrs i was in the band, and would channel switch the amp for dirty/clean, but it had a horrible hiss when i used the distortion channel. Now I just leave it on the dirty channel with the gain/vol set to halfway & kick on an OD pedal- the clean channel didn't really get too 'clean' anyway.

They were really cool to me when I talked to them...

and the 800 we have needs new preamp tubes, that's the only thing I said about it.

now I'm running the rp-1 into the back of the amp - but maybe I will try just using the dirty channel instead. tell me more!

For the RP-1, I never did use it in the fx loop- I should have, but couldn't really get the desired distorted sound out of it.
For using the distorted channel all the time, the Overdrive pedal helps for coloring. What're you using now- just the RP-1?
