I mixed one song last saturday and I wanted it to share it with you guys
so that I might have some pro critics on it.
But somehow by converting it to mp3 the file gets screwed up.
The right channel is about 3db lower then the left channel und the
vocals suddenly are sitting mostly in the left channel too.

I don't know. The orginal file is fine.
Maybe you have an idea. I mixdown the song in Nuendo as PCM Wave
with 32bit(float),44.1khz and opened it in Wavelab and used it to convert
it into 16bit. Everything fine so far. Save it directly from Wavelab as mp3,
boom there it is. Right channel 3db lower.
Tried another mp3 tool, but that didn't even except my 16bit .wav file.

argh. computers hate me ...

Got the damn file fixed and I'm not telling you what the mistake was,
'cause it would make look stupid for being an IT Pro.

Ok, here we go:
We recorded roughly a few new songs a couple month ago to see how they would
come out on tape. And since I just had a Motu 2840 available,so drum recoding
is all about compromises.
But this here is also nice example of 'not paying enough attention' to details while
tracking, and I truly hate mixing with the mouse.

I have 2 mp3 versions for you ('cause I don't know connection speed):

Have fun, and please tell me what you think.

thanks.
I tried to get rid this snare ringing with the EQ, but the 'ringing' is the only
sound the damn snare produces. The snare skin is just wrecked.
It's my fault, 'cause I didn't payed enough attention to have my drummer put some
new skins on.
Sometimes I feel like a babysitter ..... ;-)

I tried to use Drumagog on the snare but I don't have good samples
available.

The good thing on having weak tracks is that you have something to mess around
with. Try differnt things and technics and for me to have a chance to get to know
the Drumagog plug-in better and getting into this 'mixing in a box' thing.
And off course learning from mistakes.

I don't think the ringing in the snare is that big a problem, it sounds pretty cool actually. There's an immense amount of bass tho, might wanna take a look at that. The bass resonates like crazy.

Maybe they won't suite you, cause they're more funky/jazz oriented, but for starters they should work...

Sometimes especially such samples are more useful. Because they captured the original sound. So it sounds more naturally. You can and you must do the same audio processing like with real drums, EQ, Comp, Multiband-Comp etc. pp.

Particularly some "Metal Bassdrums" are often more suitable for EBM, darkwave etc. because they are over processed and sounds to electronically.

As I said: sometimes. Often enough there are good samples you can use without processing.

That's true, especially with these samples...
I've imported the demo midis that are available for download as well and loaded the kit into Battery. Wow, it was as if a real human drummer played it, awesome...

Try using a little piece of paper handkerchief (4 x 2 cm), fix it with a piece of tape on the snare rim.
Then you'll get a good ring-free snare sound, without buying that kind of plastic rings that all put on skin snare to remove that annoying sound.

I have to say I am really thankful for Andy having this board here and for everyone
else for participating.

Now, here's what I ended up with, regarding my last posted mix.

For the odd ringing on the snare, I spend some more time with EQ and comp,
and I think it's way better now. And for the future we may use new skins ..... ;-)
