Mixing with Waves

Just got the waves bundle (finally).
Managed to apply some of them already to my mix.

If anyone can give advice on both improving my mix and suggesting the best plugins out of the 300 to use, especially for processing drums, that'd be great.

My knowledge of Waves is limited, but I can tell you it'd be a great investment to also invest in better drum samples. A good drum track will mix itself, and these drum samples sound very electronic to me. The overall mix needs a boost in volume and width as well. Guitars are decent sounding, but I'd possibly layer them a bit more and add more mid frequencies to them.

Yeh unfortunately im reduced to the ex metal pack from slate drums. they're ok but I agree with what you said about mixing itself. Hence why slate cymbals sound shite. There's no mastering on it atm so that's why it's quiet but I'll bump the faders up a bit. how would you suggest sorting the 'width' issue?

If you're using slate samples with the kontakt player I'd suggest EQing them more instead of getting new samples all together. Layering generally solves the width issue... it's basic knowledge that you hard pan your guitars to give them a larger presence.

Which bundle?

If you have the SSL 4000 series, I'd recommend you the comps and EQ for almost everything. Also the Rennaisance plugs are great. Or the Q equalizers for surgical cuts (ring out a snare or toms for example). I basically use just that, but as you may have a lot more of plugins to choose from than me, just experiment with it.
