What kind of mobile mac should one choose, MacBook pro (how fast GHz?) or does the old ones still goes? How much do one have to tune it in for music making? Any advice appreciated
you don't need to "tune" macs generally. i've certainly never had to do anything special other than install the software and any hardware needed and get to work, and i've been using Macs for music since the Quadra 650.
I might wait a little bit though. Apple Insider is saying it's rumoured they're going to do an upgrade to Core 2 Duo "Merom" by late November for the holiday season, maybe even the end of this month. Both the Pro and regular MacBook lines.
The Core Duo MacBooks are more than good enough, they are by far some of the fastest notebooks on the market. However, if you're still saving up and you don't need it right away, I think it's worth waiting another month or so for what will be a fairly significant performance boost (and if you don't care about that boost - the prices on the Core Duos will come down, so either way it's a good idea to wait.)
I need one ASAP and ended up with a MacBook - I don't need the bigger screen or PCMCIA express port, so the money saved was awesome. Loaded it with 2G of RAM and it handles more than I can throw at it.
