Montsegur

Yeah it does. Where do Maiden find out about these places/historical events? Makes for some interesting songwriting.

Wah it's PIV! Hi there!

Hey Winmar, it's been a long while since I regularly posted here but I now have another job where I seem to have a lot of time on my hands and an adsl connection so with the new Maiden album coming out I figured it's time to join the Maiden Downunder crew once again.... hi to all the other guys as well!

Welcome back, PIV. :) Good to see you here again. I haven't even seen you around town since I met you at that Dungeon gig at ET's in 2001. Moving overseas for 14 months and having no time to go out since returning might have something to do with that though. :) What you been up to lately?

It has been a long time. The last couple of years I have been writing music (guitar and bass, full song structures) for another band which is coming together now, finally! This time it's a lot more melodic, alternative rock based on mood and feel rather than flat out chunky riffs. Other than that I am working as a graphic designer in St Kilda Road and living in Thornbury.

I still head out to a lot of Melbourne gigs and do a fair bit of music journalism work for Australian Musician magazine and more recently started writing live reviews for Kerrang! There's one of my reviews in the current issue, of Damaged at the Corner Hotel. That's about it really, but it's enough to keep me very busy most weeks!

The last couple of years have flown by. I should really change my user name as PIV has been dead and buried for almost two years!

I was wondering what the PIV situation was! Good luck with the new band - keep us informed on how it goes.

My brother and sister have just moved to Thornbury. What's it like there?

Cool, Kerrang - how'd you score that? Good work. :)

In around three months the new band will be ready to gig, I'll keep you posted. Thornbury is ok, kinda weird area though. Lots of old Greek and Turkish people, mixed with ferals and yuppies..... it's cool though as it's only 15 minutes from the city.

The Kerrang stuff has come about after doing a lot of interview work for Australian Musician and sending in samples of writing I had done for other magazines, other reviews etc. It's fun though and gives me something interesting to do in adddition to playing music, since work is dead boring right now!

What have you been up to? You mentioned having just returned from overseas?

Sounds like you're doing alright for yourself. :) How long have you been doing stuff for Australian Musician? How did you get into it in the first place?

I was in Indonesia from Nov 2001 till Jan this year, where I taught English. I was certainly in no hurry to come home to Melb, but had to for uni. I'm doing honours in management at Deakin Uni, and doing a spot of tutoring in first year management on the side. Work and uni seem to take up all my time, so I don't have much time to go to gigs at the moment. I'm just waiting for the end of the year so I can have a life again.

I've been doing interviews for Australian Musician for about a year now, I started off doing reviews in Beat and for a couple of web sites then met the editor of Aus Musician through a job I had for six months working at a newspaper. I showed him some stuff and hassled him until he gave the chance to put together a music news page and review some CDs. He was obviously happy with the work I did on those and then gave me an interview to do, and more followed. It's been great, I got to meet and interview Max Cavalera and the other guys from Soulfly and hang out at soundcheck, Acey Slade from Murderdolls, spoke with Corey Taylor from Slipknot, interviewed Frenzal Rhomb, The Living End, Butterfly Effect, Cog, MGF and Spineshank with more to come. My major goal now is Steve Harris!!!

Eventually I will have a website up with all the interviews transcribed and also samples of design and illustration work for my own business, Midnight Sun. I have all the stuff ready, now just have to find time to finish the site and set up the page etc.

Sounds like you are also keeping busy - look on the bright side, you'll have a couple of months off over summer while I work through like a dog hehe.
