i think it's brilliant, the most beautiful song about alcohol-problem i've ever heard (unless all skyclad songs are to be considered alcohol-related ;) )
let's post its lyrics here for those who don't know.

---another fine mess----

a girl read my runes in the warm dressing room
it was then that i started to think
there has to be something really worth hunting
i reach for another strong drink
for ten lonely years, that's my reward

my ego and i, we have faced many dangers
fear and self-loathing have never been strangers
nobody knows of the depths we have been to
or all the fine messes we've got ourselves into
for ten lonely years, that's my reward

in my world far removed from the actual
safe in my small amorality capsule
i cruise far aloof from the other world's laws
hiding behind tinted windows and doors

i'm so tired of living, too weary to cry
too stubborn to give in, curl up and die
this whole situation has, i must confess
all the tell-tale signs of another fine mess

i've been run aground, a ship in a bottle
caught in the eye of the storm
deep in my strife, i found the meaning of life
you're dying the moment you're born

my heart bears the scars even time can't disguise
if you only knew what i've seen through these eyes
oftimes overwhelmed by the feelings of doubt
i've crawled in a bottle to shut them all out

will i drown in the sweat of this chemical dream,
with far too much blood in my alcohol stream?
when mr. jack daniels has read my last rights
his friend billy whizz comes to turn out the lights

first we were plastered in paris
then we were frying in greece
caught between heaven and hellfire
send for an ambulance, fetch me a priest

i've been run aground...

'a band on ship' the captain cried
we bought damnation duty-free
now we're floating with the tide
the silent whales of lunar sea

i've been run aground...

-----------------------------------

i could talk about the lyrics and the many play on words they hide for hours on end, but this post is already overlong, so i let you people comment if you like, then maybe add some explanations later on, if needed.

oh,stupid me...look in how much trouble i have put you :(
I was refering to the "Another Fine Mess" partly live album....
it has left me with a bitter taste.....
well Skyclad will never be the same....
:(

anyway, the "A F M" song is so beautiful as (almost) everything Skyclad have created....

hehe... don't worry, an extemporary dose of martin walkyer won't hurt anyone on this board. ;)

the fact that i never thought for a minute you might be referring to that... stuff they put out recently with the same title says it all about what i think of it.
sad.

The kind of metal played by Skyclad is labeled as "folk metal". I like so much "A Burnt Offering To The Bone Idol", and the cover of the old classic "Come On Eileen".

I'm waiting for my special evening with Dream Theater in February 2002. ;)

Blind Guardian - A Night At The Opera
Immortal - Sons Of Northern Darkness
Vintersorg - Spiral Generator..
Dark Tranquillity
Opeth
Dream Theater - Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence
In Flames

well that's it, there are more but i can't think of them right now..

ok shoot me, blind guardian seem a popular one, and ive never listened to em. Arent they power metal. They worth checking out? (i like power metal by the way), they melodic? They heavy? They a bunch of rabbits?

:D

900th POST! WOOOOOOOOOO! On my favorite board at that ;)

power metal, choruses all the way, straightforward german vocals, great guitarwork (at times), some exaggeration in the way of: song length; childish refrains; cacophony in verses.

i don't particularly like power metal, but i still like bg after almost a decade. worth checking out, if only to compare them with bands you know already (think about gamma ray 'land of the free' era).

you might want to try: bright eyes, theatre of pain, mirror mirror, the last candle, mordred's song.
