This is one of those bands who seems to have a large, faithful following. Yet I can't say I've ever met anyone who was a huge Motorhead fan. Hell, I don't even recall seeing a thread about them on any of the Metal boards. Anyone have any idea which is their best disc?

I love Mötörhëäd. I own no Mötörhëäd. That's the sort of relationship Mötörhëäd gives to a lot of people methinks.

I love Motörhead, but own only five of their three hundred releases. I recently bought "Ace of Spades" and "Overkill", and I think those are my current favorites. Their new one, "Inferno", is also really great! I mean, you can't beat "Whorehouse Blues"! Other than that, I recommend "Bomber" and "Iron Fist".

Heavy metal done fuckin' right! :kickass:

Yes, definitely one of those metal institutions that everybody respects, only a dumbass could hate Lemmy or say that Sepultura's version of Orgasmatron was better (like I did before hearing the original), but owning everything in their vast catalogue is an entirely different matter...see NAD's post, in other words.

Ace Of Spades
Overkill
Bomber
These are the best 3. Motorhead were always respected by almost everyone into hard rock/metal but lived in the shadow of bands like Metallica, Maiden etc. The lack of a thread about Motorhead in metal boards, is justified by the fact that most metalheads dont care about old/more genuinte/BETTER and rock n rollish metal, but they are into Opeth. From an objective point of view, Motorhead is one of the bands that one can call "best band ever" and he will have a right.

I own several albums. All the ones mentioned are good, and I'd add Another Perfect Day and Orgasmatron.

If you don't like Motörhead, there is something wrong with your genetic make up. Gritty, sloppy, tough, raw, heavy, and god damn entertaining, brilliant in their simplicity and absolutely unbeatable in their legacy.

BUY: No Sleep Till Hammersmith. This is the definitive Motörhead, capturing them in the live setting where they're most impressive, pounding out eleven classic tunes mixed with Lemmy's beer-soaked, half-intelligible stage ramblings. Music to do 105 on the freeway to, music to go for that tenth shot of Jack or twelfth beer to, music for getting some hot drunken metal chick on her back in the backseat of your van and not pretending to care what her name is.

Jesus fuck, I just realized all over again how awesome this band is. Also check out the three IOTS mentioned, as well as some surprising musical diversity from Overnight Sensation and the new one, Inferno. Iron Fist is good too.

Sad but true.

all you need from Motorhead is one CD ... pick one from the early days and you shall be happy.

that being said, I saw Lemmy once in a fucked up dive bar here in the late 80's ... the man is a presence to say the least. he "IS" Rock and Roll ... and his picture should be next to the definition in the dictionary.

Yeah, someone posted the article on another board I frequent. I didn't even think Lemmy would be able to find a woman to have sex with him... but men? Hey, whatever floats your vote.
