Motorhead?

The opening theme to "Decline of Western Civilization: The Metal Years" is Motorhead's "Cradle to the Grave"....playing at full blast while metalheads stand in line to get into a show. You can feel the buzz, the excitement, and the Motorhead track works perfectly.

That's what Motorhead is all about. They're not a headliner, but they are the perfect opening band just because EVERYONE loves Motorhead. I mean, there's nothing to dislike. Just drink beer and turn up the volume. You could throw them into any gig line up as well, heh.

Hmm Motorhead are headliners almost everywhere they play (i think). Even when i saw them in Wacken 2001, they were headliners on Sunday (Saxon were on Saturday). The bands that are qualified to play after Motorhead are very few (Sabbath, maybe Maiden etc)

Motorhead is cool in small doses ... playing 2 hour headline gigs is not for them ... they are so rooted in punk ... that a nice 30-40 minute set works best for full effect.

Well .. i totally disagree about "rooted in punk" (not everything rock n rollish and raw is punk), but i can see your point about small doses. Even though everytime i saw them and enjoyed them, they were headliners playing for almost 2 hours

I thought it was hilarious at Wacken when Lemmy asked if there were any punks in the audience and everyone went dead quiet.. Lemmy looked pissed off and played God Save the Queen anyway.

Yeah, they are big enough to headline but as lurch said, I just think they're better off opening a show, or playing through a 30 minute set of classic metal. I'm not sure if I could take more than 30 minutes of Motorhead, but that's just me.

I remember seeing that VH1 top 100 metal bands show, and Dave Grohl was talking about how punks embraced Motorhead. They would have Motorhead patches on their leather, alongside all the punk stuff. OK ok, so it was the drummer from Nirvana saying all this, but it still rings true me thinks. :p Plus he did Probot on Southern Lord so he is a full-on member of our metal community now. :tickled:

Also, best use of "Ace of Spades" was on The Young Ones when they had to do University Challenge. If you know the show, you'll appreciate what I've said, otherwise ignore me. :loco:

all you need from Motorhead is one CD ... pick one from the early days and you shall be happy.
man is this ever perfectly true. there's nothing really wrong with newer motorhead but the original albums contain all you really need.

Lemmy is unique...I remember the quote I read once, went something like this:

interviewer: "Lemmy, what would you do if you turned around and Elvis Presley was standing in front of you?"

Lemmy: "I'd be astounded! I would say, 'Elvis, I'm astounded!'"

this dude is hardcore ... fucking the GOD of R'n R if there ever was one :kickass:

MOTÖRHEAD's official web site has been updated with the following message:

MOTÖRHEAD have been forced to cancel a few of their European summer festivals and reschedule others after founder and frontman Lemmy Kilmister was diagnosed by doctors this week as suffering from extreme dehydration leading to exhaustion and was ordered to take time off and rest immediately.

"When you're dealing with a warhorse like Lemmy it's not easy to discuss typical normal healthy things such as a balanced diet and proper fluid intake," said manager Todd Singerman. "Look, one time when I spoke to him about the importance of vegetables in a diet, he looked me straight in the eye and said, 'What are you talking about Todd?! These crisps here are part of the vegetable food group!' So imagine telling him he needs to drink more water because it's a crazy hot summer in Europe! Although in fairness to Lemm he did start making an effort by adding extra ice-cubes to his Jack and coke."

Drummer Mikkey Dee spoke of the 100-plus degree heat at recent gigs, and commented, "I'm having to drink 8 bottles of Gatorade as well as water just to get through these shows, I mean, I'm close to passing out, and there's Lemm sweating his ass off drinking his Jack and coke! I told him after our last number at the Fury Fest in France, 'Let's not go back out for an encore' and that we should call it a night because really, I thought I was going to collapse. They were telling us that it was over 130 degrees on stage, but he insisted on doing the final two encores. We managed to get through 'Ace of Spades' so I said 'Come on, Lemm, we did an encore, let's just skip the last one, 'Overkill', and he said, 'No, Mikkey, we're doing 'Overkill', but maybe we can just play it a little slower."

Commenting on rumors that Lemmy's health is in a more serious state than diagnosed, Singerman laughed, "Come on, you couldn't make this story up! The simple truth is that Lemmy's the classic rock'n'roll juggernaut who has proudly defied human logic for decades, but even juggernauts need a bit of maintenance once in a while."

That's right. And Vivian stuffs the donut into his mouth, gives the old lady the two fingers and then legs it.
