MOTU 2408

I used to have a 2408. It was a nice interface for its time, but didn't have any preamps and didn't offer any features that are very competitive with anything currently made by MOTU or anyone else.

Although it might be outdated I have an RME Octamic D & Beheringer ADA8000 running on the ADAT. Works perfectly and I'm not thinking of updating anytime soon.

I do have to say that the Analog inputs from the 1024 are superior to those of the 2408!

Just depends on what you need to do, one man's "features" are another man's hindrance. I use a console so preamps would be useless, and inferior to the board. (I forget that most people aren't using consoles nowadays.)
For a straight converter getting it into the computer I think it is still the most bang for the buck out there. I have 24 channels of analog I/O for roughly $900. And I still have 24 tracks of ADAT if I need to expand it.

2408 mk3 here, as recommended to me by Mr. James Murphy a few years ago. No major complaints. It does everything that I need to do and does it well. I had an issue when I first got it but Motu replaced it for free. Don't see a need to upgrade anytime soon. Still happy with it.
