Anyone else get DP5 yet?

I'm loving it, track folders are amazing, the new bundled VIs are very cool. Totally stable and seems even snappier than before!

One more thing - for those afraid to upgrade due to the incessant fearmongering over at Unicornation, I'd suggest you follow my advice (this is from a post I made over there):

MOTU makes it really easy to keep multiple versions of DP installed. I have versions going back to 4.5 on my current system.

I've had no problems with DP5, but I was very careful before I installed. Before you install, I suggest that you do the following, in the following order (as I did):
  • Back up all of your projects to an offline drive(s) or DVDs
  • Run Apple Software Update
  • Update all of your drivers, plugins, and virtual instruments
  • Install AppleJack and run it on autopilot once.
  • Install DP5
  • Any time you open a Project with DP5, save it in the existing project folder as "(Project Name) DP5" so that you can always open your older project file with DP 4.61 if things go badly for any reason.
I've had no crashes and everything is working great so far! That includes recording to 8 tracks simultaneously, autopunching, playback of 50+ track projects with many VIs and plugins, automation, etc. DP5 seems faster and more stable I would say!

I'm really excited about it just because of the meter bridge feature they added, I like that a lot, also the surround mixing built-in as one of the features coming in standard. I can't wait to get my upgrade. Glad to hear everything is well with this newest version. :)

I considered downloading the update, but I don't know if it is worth it for me right now. The new additions do look pretty sweet though :)

Kenneth....yes, but they are NEW for DP. DP has never had surround sound mixing built into it, or a meter bridge, or track folders, etc. I recently converted to DP 4.61 from ProTools which I've been working with for the past 5 years along with Vegas and Cubase/Nuendo for freelance stuff. I was completely blown away at the big difference it made. It's a lot more intuitive for me compared to PT...I have yet to find anything to come anywhere near Vegas' editing features...I mean I can edit an entire session the right way in about an hour in Vegas, editing the same shit in PT or anything else takes twice as long or more. The built in pitch correction is AMAZING! Kazrog really helped me make the decision to switch over, I was optimistic, but still skeptical, I've been through a lot of hyped up things in the past and been really disappointed and had no way of making my money back, this is probably one of the first things in a long time that I have bought that was hyped up and delivered as promised. I'm really happy that I made the switch.

Actually, DP has had built in surround mixing for years! Nothing new. Also, the Input Monitor window and the meters on the mixer have always displayed essentially everything the Meter Bridge does, albeit not as elegantly.

That's awesome, I'm glad you're happy, that's the most important thing. I've been a DP user since 1.0 and I'm happy to have stuck with it.

Am I missing something in thinking that some of those 'new' features are already present in other DAWs?

Some of them, sure, like Track Folders (which I've only seen in Cubase previously.) I've been waiting for Track Folders for 8 years!!!! Finally they did it!

However, if you look at how these features have been implemented in DP, and the speed of the UI, it's way beyond where the other DAWs on the market are.

I thought DP was quite similar to PT?

Only in the sense that it's fairly easy for a PT user to learn. It does a lot more than PT, especially for MIDI and video work, and has better hardware support.

yes, 006... as Kazrog has said... surround has been in DP for quite some time... i did some surround mixes in DP a couple years back.

Oh I didn't know that. I was under the assumption it was a new feature since it was advertised as such in an ad I saw in a magazine for DP 5. Either way, DP rocks.
