I will be moving into college this Thursday. I've lived in a very small town for most of my life so I'm kind of nervous about the entire ordeal. Has anyone else on here moved from a small town to a large university (by large I mean around 20,000 students)? What should I be expecting? Also, if anyone has any high school-to-college transition tips, that would also be appreciated!

Thanks! :)

:lol::lol::lol: ^^^This...

There'll be a lot of adjustments to be made... I moved from the countryside across England to the city, and its worlds apart...

Just watch yourself and your gear... don't be too trusting... Students are amongst the prime targets for burglars...

I've done this. It was difficult. I tend to be very introverted, so moving to a place with lots of new people, and unfamiliar surroundings was a stressful experience for me. I think the best thing to do is dive right in. Get involved with other students, and attend lots of activities. Make a few good friends and stick with them. It makes it a lot easier to do it with people in the same situation because then you don't feel so alone.

This all sounds very sappy, but it can be tough for some. In the end though, you'll be glad it all happened. It will make you a better person.

^^^^Great advice...

It took me about 5-6 months before I met anyone outside of my new housemates or college peers... when it happens you'll have a blast dude I'm sure but that initial start to meeting people is the part you've gotta get out of the way asap...

I wen't from a 100k town to a 45k town that had 20k college students, not a huge change town wise (aside from this one being loads better), but you're seriously going to fucking love it.

Never again in your life are you going to be as surrounded by 10k+ 18-22 year old girls. Don't pass that opportunity up.

But seriously, wrap that shit up.

You will have 2 or 3 parties possible a week. Tons of people, girls, alcohol, parties, everywhere around.

Then when you will enter the active life, this will almost completely disappear.

So what they said, make the best out of it !

Thanks for the advice guys.

I was pretty worried about bringing any gear with me until I found an insurance plan that covers anything that is stolen, so at least I don't have to worry about that as much now.

And to reiterate, dont wait around to go out and socialize. The longer you wait, the harder it is to get motivated. Get out there and meet people right away.

And also what Jeff said, you'll never in your life be surrounded by so many girls in your age bracket again, so take advantage. You can only strike out so many times.

Definitely work your ass off. Meet people that are into the same things you and learn from them. Don't pass up on any opportunity, even if it means your gonna be putting off some fun times.

I wish I had the opportunity you have. Don't waste your time!

Thanks for all of the advice guys! So far, everything has been really awesome. Last night I decided to finally break out the guitar and crank my amp up a little bit. Shortly after I started playing some Dying Fetus, a few guys that live on the same floor came to my room and told me they were death metal fans, which I totally was not expecting. So, once again, thanks for the advice, and hopefully college stays as awesome as it is now!

Best time of my life, enjoy it.. walk around and meet people on your dorm floor. I still keep in touch with a lot of people from freshman year.

Party a lot, bang lots of girls. Go to classes in between. That was pretty much my college experience. I went from a 2k town to a 20k school just like you

You can get by with bullshitting a lot of stuff in college. If you're doing an essay or a paper a don't know what to write.. just think up the best possible bullshit you can muster and you'll usually get at least a passing grade

You know what they say..

'It's not what you know. It's what you can pretend to know'

While you're there, heres a drink for you to try, half a pint of cider/beer, half of red bull (non brand energy drink) and two shots of jager....
