I've been starting the process for moving back for the last year, official paperwork, getting the house ready to either rent or sell, selling stuff we don't need/use.

This certainly isn't the biggest hurdle involved (FACTA/FBAR so far is), but I'm debating whether to keep most of my gear, run it all on a transformer, keep some of my favorites and see if I can get 220V transformers or sell it and start mostly fresh. It's not like I have an amazing setup, but what I do have I like. There's also the issue of bringing a lot of this in and having to pay customs.

The last time I lived abroad was '93-94 when my dad got transferred to Quebec. And before that 87-90 we lived outside of Lund.

Has anyone else done something similar recently? I'd love some advice. Not only on the gear, but anything else on making a big move like this.

Well, I can't say much since I've only moved across the country for school, but what I'd look into is selling price in the states vs. buying price in Europe.
Some things you can get for way less money in the states than in Europe, so you got a little calculating to do on that with customs, shipping and such.

Where in Sweden are you moving?

@Derpsicle Customs will be tricky. I don't have receipts for most of it since I bought it used and generally way under current market values. As for where, currently the plan is Linköping.

@Sloan I think the 2203KK and DSL are multi-tapped for 110/220V, but the Roadster definitely isn't. Of all of them that'd be the one I'd convert since it'd have the best resale in the EU.

What kind of gear would be selling if you do decide to sell? I'm in Austin and might be interested in some of your stuff!

Good luck with the move... it sounds daunting.

Mercury sells the 230V PT for $300, I can't imagine getting direct from Mesa would be too much more.

@Derykus I'll PM you a list of what I'm thinking of putting on the block. Thanks, it's a bit overwhelming trying to plan this.

I don't think you should sell it in usa and then buy the same things here. Amps are VERY expensive around here. My guesstimate is you'll earn it all back if you sell it in Sweden.
Maybe you knew all of this already but Blocket.se is great to see what kind of prices one can expect out of second hand equipment, use it before deciding anything.

Thomann.de tend to be cheapest if you want new stuff. Roadster = 23000 sek =2590 euro.

As said if you want to loook for second hand www.blocket.se is the most popular site. There are some more music specific like http://www.diskant.se/ but generally if it's not on Blocket.se it'll be very difficult to find it anywhere else.
Here's the only second hand Roadster I found: http://www.blocket.se/helsingborg/Mesa_Boogie_Roadster_Topp_38725054.htm?ca=4&w=3&last=1
He's selling it for 17 000 sek, about 6000 sek cheaper than a new one. Probably not including shipping

I tend to use these as well if I want to compare items between swedish companies:

I think some companies that ship to Sweden are also on there. Because I found Thomann.de when I searched for Roadster.

For more home oriented stuff there's of course a IKEA in Linköping so that kind of stuff is easily found and pretty cheap.

Thanks Plankis! Some great links there.

It definitely looks like keeping the Roadster would be worthwhile. You think Tullverket would notice if I brought one back every year? ;-)
At this point I'm still considering all sides. Might even leave them here in storage and bring them over.

Its interesting to look through the svensk IKEA sites. The food at ours cracks me up. Ribs and fried chicken. It's nice to see it's consistent in furniture sense. At least the kid's rooms will look the same.
