Soulseek, Kazaa, blah blah whatever. What's good? I used Napster about 4 times way back when, and then Kazaa about 10 times several years ago so I'm way out of the loop. I need to find the occasional bizarre song, where do I go?

Thanks and shit, here are some whores:

*sigh*

Reason number 17 why I don't use download programs: they suck ass and my patience wanes quickly. Bearshare installed some ill shit on my poop so I'm ditching that, but eMule looks okay, except for the fact the song I was looking for isn't around. D'oh.

Everything is shit except Soulseek and DirectConnect, and DirectConnect is the better of the two as long as you have much to share. If you do, you can get onto good specialized metal hubs and find anything -- if you don't, Soulseek is better to begin with.

Start off with Soulseek and download lots of albums, or just rip some albums into mp3, then go into DC++ for a specialised Metal Hub, Erik was right. You can indeed find ANYTHING.

This is the ultimate truth. Don't listen to anyone else.

I'd put it like this: who needs CD-R exchange when you have file sharing? :p 'Course, it's nice and convenient not having to download huge amounts of albums but when, for example, BSW tells me to check out the Mar de Grises album, it's much more convenient for both of us if I just make a quicky download. Faster, cheaper and easier, everyone wins!

Actually all I'm looking for is the secret maudlin of the Well song that is the clue to deciphering Bath/LYBM. Demonspell, I don't suppose you have that do you? :Spin:

Thanks for all the input and shiz.

Here's some directions for getting hooked up to DC++. Somebody emailed me these a while back. I got a TON of software and such from DC++.

http://dcplusplus.sourceforge.net/
install dc++
open the program, and go to files, settings
Type a name into the name field
click on downloads on the left hand side and set your download directory
click on sharing, then you have to choose the directories you want to share. Do not share installed programs or you'll get banned from most hubs.
Note! On this page you should see a upload slots field. That's the number of people who can download from you. Most hubs require 3 slots per hub you are connected to. So plan on 3 for one hub, 6 for 2 hubs, etc...
Click Ok to close the settings window.
In the menu area the first icon is a computer monitor with a T shaped thing going into it. That's supposed to be a networked computer. Click on that and wait a minute for the huublist to load.
Once a huge list of names appears choose a hub that looks good and double-click. You can filter the results of the hublist using the filter. (for example 'xxx' will give you mostly hubs that allow porn ;) )
Once you're in the hub, there's a search function that looks like a magnifying glass. Search for what you want. If you find somebody that looks interesting, right click on them or the item that you've searched and click on get file list. That way you can view their whole share.
