My cover of Artifacts of the Black Rain

possibly not for you, but it worked for Shard. oh, and Tim could you put up a link to Nocturnal Sun on your site? I do plan on following your music and I want others to see it that come to my site, and my links site is really empty, so I'd put up a link to the Unholy Thpoo site also on my page. If you need a banner or something for my site so you can link me, just d/l the banner off the front page of my site www.freewebs.com/nocturnalsun and I'll use the kool little "Thpoo" thingy on yours for your link. that cool? :Spin:

Constructive critism: You have an excellent voice, but, unlike IF's original, you kind of bend it to fit the music. If you want further information, I can more exactly point to which parts.

But maybe you want it that way :)

NocturnalSun: I don't have access to my site right now, but as soon as I do, I'll be glad to put up a link to your stuff. (I like your originals, btw)

nemuu: Thanks for the compliment :) Yeah, the vocals on the song are different, but it's not that big of a deal. I'm not looking for a perfect cover, I just wanted to do the song. The vocals on my version are especially different in the final verse where in the original they sort of crushed the two lines together by double tracking them and overlapping, I actually tried to sing it completely. *shrug* It turned out OK, I think.

thx Watchmeallinflames :) Good to know I have at least a few supporters, since im having major trouble getting people to see my songs. and btw Shard, I know EXACTLY what you're saying :) I'm just the same way, don't care about getting it absolutely perfect as much as just doing it. recording is really addictive when you have a home studio, right? hehe. hey just thinking, would it be possible for you and I to do recording of some songs over the net? like you do the guitar one part and send the file to me and I add the guitar 2 part and send it back to you for final mixing (It looks like your recording device is better than mine). just something I thought would be cool to do, if you need a 2nd guitarist for some things.

Sure, that would rock! You got an AIM SN or anything? It would make this easier. Also, if you want me to growl stuff for you, I'd be happy to, I need more practice with vocals anyway. I know you have a bunch of lyrics written. \m/

yeah. it's a little baseball-ish sounding but it's not. It's the name of my friend's band and I'm trying to get them a little exposure by making a sn about them. Actually I have 4 names on aim... Rounding3rdXT, Texan Guitar God, xcrimsonthunderx, and darrktranquility, but I get on texan guitar god and rounding3rdxt a bunch so just watch for me on those 2. Sounds like a good deal man, I'll talk to you about that on there. :)

Digitech RPx400 Effects pedal (lead guitar set on "Rectify" preset, rhythm on "Scoop" and harmony on "Scoop" second channel, bass on "Acoustic" preset)
I am thinking about buying this one too. So is it good? Can you tell a little more about it please?

I am going to listen to your covers when I am at home as I am in school right now.

HeadCrusher: It's a great pedal all around, but there's loads of technical problems if you want to record with it and/or load shit on it from your computer. It worked perfectly for me, but other people complain about stuff. It sounds really nice though, and there are some killer effects on it. I record with "speaker compensation" turned on, that gives me a slightly muffled, but really full sound. If I turn it off, the treble is boosted insanely high and I lose all sense of the effect unless I play it through my amp. Through the amp, it's completely the opposite. Speaker compensation kills the sound, while without it, you get ripping distortion and great range. The clean effects sound really nice too, they even have an "acoustic" preset that sounds very nice.

Dead Eternity: Yeah, I've checked out most of the stuff on your site a while back, you're really good. I love the 10-finger tapping stuff, I wish I could do that. Also, all of your solo covers are awesome.

If any of you guys want to hear more of my stuff (covers and originals), check this out: http://thpoo.insta-code.com

NocturnalSun: good cover of JST! im not critisizing it here but the first electric riff is a bit off i think, but who cares, its a great attempt! well done...

why didn't you experience any problems while the others did so?

downloaded your cover of artifacts... yesterday! Sounds great! even the drums sound as if they were real, not computer-generated!

I opened up a new thread for those who are interested in guitar-/recording-related stuff. I am looking forward to see you guitar-players posting there!

Ok here goes some constructive criticism, you need some serious work on your lead playing, your vibrato is inexistant and that makes things very stiff and emotionless, many people neglect the importance of a good vibrato and bending technique and are tempted to just learn how to play fast (... i know i did that for some years), you lack consistency on lead playing overall, dont hurry things, just play slow things and practice your vibrato and bendings ... speed comes naturaly with your progression ... hope that helps and i hope i wasnt so harsh ...

Edit: this was for the thread starter
