My Cover of To Bid You Farewell

Some constructive comments for you :

The clean guitars should have more brightness, but since you used a nylon string classical guitar, that would have been pretty hard to do.
MIDI drum and bass are always sounding like a can of beans if you ask me, and I strongly recommend the use of samples. They are way more efficient and still quite simple to use (if you can find good samples, which isn't my case regarding bass....)
The dude signing has a pretty good calm voice, which is very appropriated for this kind of song, but sometimes the lines are slightly off tempo and therefore lose a little credibility. I also think that you should work a little more on these multitrack vocal effects, timing isn't perfect there neither. As Poona said, the "once it came you lied" part is a little fucked up, the guitar should have shifted to A# earlier.
Your playing is really good and clean. Not a lot of mistakes can be heared. There is just this part at 2:50 (in the original song) that I think you tend to play a little too fast. Your heavy part tone is quite nice.

That said, I really don't pretend I would have done better, but if you want to improve on further recordings this is what I suggest. I've been thinking about covering this one for months but I'm way to lazzy to do it...

I give it a 7/10

Thank you VERY much for your comments, that was the most helpful one i have gotten so far! As far as the "once it came you lied" part i see that your right...my excuse is that the tab i was using was wrong! But yeah your right it should have changed chords sooner.

And i hate to keep making excuses, but the vocalist recorded the vocals over a guitar-only track (no drums) which was probably a bad idea, but thats why vocals might be slightly out of time in some places.

Crappy drums. Demo quality. Woohoo.

I'm sorry I dont have a fuckin home studio...i agree the drums could be better, im sortof a newbie to drum programming...but, if you can do better, i would love to hear it... :err:

It's alright! The guitar playing is good, and the vocals are bearable :) It'd sound a lot better if the drums weren't midi.. a tip is going for Drumkit From Hell (a set of nice samples) and just do drum-mapping in Cubase!

Dear Newbie with shitty demo,

I know you are new here, but there have been several posters here that have posted their stuff on ULTIMATE METAL that are of much higher quality than this:

Bumblefoot
Kushtaiidan
Mr. Neil
Hopkins
Stygian Apothegem

Of these fags mentioned, Mr. Neil has posted several Opeth songs as well as his own band's crap. You should ask anyone of these guys for helping you learn how to make your drums not sound like crap.

If you cannot take honest criticism, then don't post your shitty demos on a good band's forum of you playing their songs.

OK...i have absolutely no problem with honest criticism...as long as you can try to point out what you didnt like and how it can be improved....your first post was rather pointless and you basically just said it sucked...

Thank you to the guy who made the post above you for actually suggesting how to improve the drums instead of just saying they sucked. That is constructive critisism, which is exactly what i was looking for. Anyone (even DeliveranceDriver) who doesnt like my cover is more than welcome to post constructive comments. I will listen to and hopefully learn from them.

Dude, that was freakin rad. Like mentioned in many posts before mine, the drums were what "messed" it up, but I'm sure that midi drums are pretty damn hard to tweak with than the real thing. Other than that it was pretty good, timing was off near the middle and end of the song, but other than that it was tits.
