Is War Thunder - a free to play WW1 to Korean War period fighter and bomber flight simulator with arcade mode where you can use a mouse to steer and aim.
Ground forces are still in beta, but from what i heard from other players, it is way better than World of Tanks.
The game has very beautiful graphics and runs smoothly on sub maximum details setting on my not so powerful computer and seems to have less bugs and other oddities than some of the other free to play online games i know.
Would be nice to see a good number of metalheads flying with and against me, so i'll write a very simple starting guide:
1. Dont use your starting Golden Eagles for Research Points coversion !
Save it for later when you know exactly what is worth buying (6th crew slot might be the best choice).
2. Pick USA as your first country - they have the best guns on low level planes and some of the best dive bombers.
Then after you reach some experience (you will do it in less than 1 day if i remember correctly), you will be able to fly all countries.
3. Turn off automatic repairs - low level planes will get repaired for free in just few minutes and you will save some Silver Lions.
4. Fly arcade mode with no cockpit view and use a mouse like everyone else does, it is way harder to score a hit when flying your plane with a joystick and to see your surroundings when the cockpit covers half of your screen.
I flied my first battle without a mouse and by some extreme luck i shot down 2 planes, but then it got way harder beause my luck went away.
5. Do the tutorials for some nice Silver Lions rewards.
6. Research bombers, because in most games the number of ground target kills (the yellow blinking ones) is the most important thing that gives you your victory.
In arcade battles, bombers win the battle which gives you a big bonus for Silver Lions and Research Points.
2 fighters and 1 bomber is good at first, then when you have 5 crew slots you can go with 2 figters, 1 heavy figter bomber killer and 2 bombers.
