My day with Jeff Loomis

Ok here's the deal. DFH SUperior isn't a universal binary yet so there's a bunch of issues with the intel macs, but the update still works on the intel macs even though it's not officially supported. unless the "special version of DFHS" is identical to the real thing, i'd say he's probably gonna have to update to the full version of Superior and download the updates.

Hahahaha, looks like the planets aligned just right for this one. Is this all just a coincidence based around you being in the know recording wise and living down the street from him or was there some communication involved?

Here's how the whole thing came about:
The friend who I was with yesterday, I played in a band with from when I was like 15 up until about 18 (I'm now close to 21), so we've been friends a long time. Through us making music, we both realized how much we enjoyed recording and audio in general, so several years ago he ended up asking at a venue in Seattle if they needed another monitor guy, because it looked like they were short-handed at a show one night. They ended up hiring him, and soon enough he was doing FOH sound there. He currently works doing FOH at an even better venue in Seattle, he's toured with Himsa (being that John Pettibone does security at his current venue), he did Ozzfest this summer for The Red Chord and A Life Once Lost, and he just left today for a three week tour with Bayside, etc...so his audio career is doing really well...but that initial place where he was hired has practice space for bands for rent, and it just so happens that Nevermore rents there. So...I guess that my friend was approached a few years ago by someone at the venue, who knew he had a little Pro Tools rig at home, who knew that Steve Smyth needed somewhere to overdub a few guitar parts for the Testament DVD. He ended up meeting and befriending Jeff Loomis somehow, through the process of recording tracks with Steve Smyth.
Fast-forward to current time...I think basically the same kind of thing happened- Jeff knew my friend was familiar with Pro Tools so he called him up and asked him to help him get the Digi002 up and running. My friend didn't know much about MIDI controllers or Rewire or any of that stuff though, so my friend in turn called ME up that night to come help him and Jeff.

i get lessons with rusty cooley right now which is pretty cool considering hes like the 6th fastest shredder of all time or something like that..but i would shit my pants for lessons with Jeff Loomis

Theres an actual list of the fastest shredders of all time?
I'd like to see that.
I searched the guinness site but got nothing. You would think that they would be in there.

yea i think it was guitar world who did it..michael angelo batio or w.e the hell his name is was 1st and yngwie was like 3rd and john petrucci was 8th i think..

The Great Kat? Never heard of her. I'll definitely have to check that freak out!
I don't know about those lists. Guinness should totally be on top of this stuff.

Overdubs on a live DVD? Not surprised but still, Is it that important to sound as perfect as a CD?

So what does the signature guitar look like? is at a factory model with his signature and a fancy paint job or is it more custom.?

Later

I have the padKontrol and DFHS. I don't use the demo that comes with, but yeah, it's a bitch. After you have loaded everything, and set your midi channel on your DAW program. Open up the VST(DFHS) in a project, and two midi tracks will appear. The input output section, on the midi track info is where you get DFHS to pop up. Click on the input, DFHS, and there you are. Click on the output, and use korgpadcontrol for your output. You have to read the Korg manual, to set the program and settings for DFHS. It's p12 s7, and you can set the pad to control each drum individually. It helps to keep hitting the pads, while your guessing. I have my Padkontrol set up with USB. Those manuals suck, but you have to go over them several times to get started. Tell Jeff, Hey, for me! Good luck :heh:
