As this is my first post, I will properly introduce myself,
for those who are not interested, here's my first mix.

The vocals will be recorded again, because my singer didn't have his throat working well. That's also the reason why they are soft in the mix.
I'm looking for more aggresion, but don't have a clue how to.....

Well here we go with the introduction:
In short a dutchman(so excuse me for the poor english) in his twenties, with a band full of members who are afraid of recording in a studio because of the pressure. The 3 recordings we did make in a realtime studio don't help either as it was with people who did not understand metal....
(We recorded with a dual rectifier, and the critics in the magazines told us to throw away that cheap ass boss metalzone...., no they were right it sounded sh*t the producer told us to put the gain on 2 MAX because it would be better in the mix....)

So the most logical thing: search the internet, read a day or 2 and try it yourself....
Well, 2 days become 3 months in notime and thanks to this forum i'm beginning to understand the basics of mixing, and got the courage to try myself.

We are not after world domination:grin: we just wanna play and drink beers, but in order to get that you're gonna have to put a few songs on your facebook....So that's the whole idea basically....

Thanks for reading and/or your comments, they are much appreciated.

Sorry if i ask stupid questions, I feel I have 3 things against me:
1.English is not my first language( although my bass player is american, so i can ask difficult things to him)
2.I'm just learning everything here, and do not have gear worth thousands
3.I'm a complete computer noob...

Thanks again.

Everything sounds very 'slappy' and thin. The guitars sound undergained and very, very muddy. The drums have the potential to sound great but they only come across as high-end snaps, and the vocals come across as high-end screeching.

Thanks for the comments, I will see if i can get the book anywhere.

I have minimized my gain on the guitars, so it won't sound like a vacuum cleaner.. I've read somewhere that the muddyness is between 300 & 900 HZ so I've scooped that all out..... - 2db isn't enough? on my KRK speakers it isn't good(of course) but to say muddy....
In a new approach(of the same song) I've put 4 extra guitars in it with VST of a 5150, and that does sound much clearer to me.
I'll post a clip when my computer will work with me....:(

The vocals weren't processed at all, beacause my singer wanted to do it all again anyway, and I don't have a clue yet what you must&must not do when processing vocals.

Thanks again for the input, and all info

Well, here I am again.....It seems when you push your computer hard, it fails on you.
The upside of losing everything you had, is that you start with fresh mood. So...Here we go from this:

Can you tell me if I'm on a right(er) way?
The singer had a better throat now, and the guitars have another fx setting and are doubled(quadtracked???,sorry noob) so 8 tracks guitar, 4xMesa & 4x5150 also i've processed the bass a little more.
Edit...after listening for a whole evening, the vocals need to be harder in the mix.

Thanks for your time/opinions
