Nobody EVER said that. Least of all Apple Inc., which is the official word after-all.

Although this will come out a little asshole-ish, I'm extremely baffled at the fact you did  You must have done something really dumb.

I was thinking the same thing. Thinking some of the sites I've visited, I really should have catched something by now  but this thing has always been completely clean.

I have seen a few people on this forum claiming that its impossible to get a mac-virus, so.. ;)

And i have to agree, you almost have to work on it to get a Mac virus today.. but the mac-virus community is growing fast, and the guys at F-Secure has predicted an explosion of viruses to Mac within the next year or so.. so we will have to wait and see what happens. :)

To give a little perspective,
There are, what, 2 documented trojans on the mac?

this one, the DNSchanger and Backdoor.Mac.Hovdy.a,
both of which are pretty rare in the wild.

also, of the 50 or so "threats" listed by SecureMac, the majority only affect OS9, which has been out of use for almost 10 years now.

getting a trojan on your mac is like getting Ebola in London,
the chances are vanishingly remote.

:)

anyway, to the OP, just cos it's rare doesn't mean it won't happen.
avoid sketchy websites.

Yeah well... All their products suck so they must be wrong

Well, stop using old, pirated shitty versions of it then.
They are the fastest with identifying and killing viruses, and they have the most complete toolkit to remove viruses out of all the anti-virus software packages out there(Unless you buy a "light" version ofc.).
F-Secure used to have both its own engines, and Kaspersky's.
Most Nordic Linux-server systems are running F-Secure Blacklight, Internet Gatekeeper and Server Security(Anti-Virus functions is mostly to prevent Win-viruses to spread.).. i find it odd that these server owners are leaving their systems protected by a sucky product. ;)

Im not saying theres allot right now, but it is growing.
And also, those 2 viruses are the root-sets, there probably exists about 1000 variations of each.

yeah, ill wait and see... been hearing predictions like that for 6 or more years now... and there was a wave of similar predictions a decade and more back as well. i've never doubted that it could happen, but i'm not holding my breath.

+1. The same thing has been said for ages. I think someone wants to sell more software.

Bah. We're going to see a rise in "mac virus" and thats a dead cert, but its not going to be by much. We're not going to see anything like what happend to windows xp, as the OS could be shanked by design. Traditional viruses have pretty much come to a stand still as well now so the future is brighter for windows at the moment too.

and yet, as James pointed out, these same dire predictions have been made for the past 10 years or so.

but you do have a point, even if there is an increase in Mac viruses it will be nowhere near the scale of Windows 95,98,XP.

I know that theres very few known viruses for macs, I meant to say that its hard to get one, it was just spyware. Still not good but better then having some virus.

006-I completely agree with you, I have no idea what I could have done to get it because when im online the only pages i really go to is this forum, espn, and ebay but its fixed.
