My new Line 6 Spider Valve 112 is...

...FRICKEN AWESOME! I brought it home from the GC today and after about 3 minutes of messing with it and about 20 minutes of going through all the presets and looking through the manual... I think I'm in love.

I'll have to record some raw takes with it and post them up for everyone/anyone interested...

Just... beautiful...

Edit: here are the links for the sake of not having to scroll... and my playing has gotten horrible, hence buying this amp so I can practice...

Absolutely no processing... EMG81>V30>SM57>MBOX2 ... Mic was placed pointing directly where the dust cap and cone meet... This is also recorded in my new place where there is ABSOLUTELY NO room treatment... amp against a wall... and the room has a nice slapback verb to it (I think it'll be awesome for acoustic guitar)...

settings were (clock value) Metal(blue), Gain 12, Bass 1, Mid 1, Treb 3, ChanVol 12, MasterVol 8, Presence 12

Estimated time to set it all up and record everything... 12 minutes...

Problem is when you try these things in the shop, you can't really crank it like you would in the rehearsal room or at a gig.

I quite like Line 6 gear, but I find that I always have to back off the presence and treble controls at higher volumes. As with any amp though I suppose.

I'll record some clips tomorrow after work...

What I'll do is (mainly for my own curiosity) is record a couple different tracks, riffs and then an rough double and quad track(s)... I'll also get one from the recording out... see how that sounds...

if you have any personal requests, tone ideas/setting that you want to hear, i'll check this thread before I start tomorrow and we'll see what happens...

The signal chain is going to be bare... SM57>MBOX2>ProTools.

I plan to do NOTHING to the tracks in terms of "cleanup"/eq...

edit: BTW, the VOX mod on this thing is spot on... I played an AC30 at GC right next to this one... the controls aren't the same, but I got the same sounds out of both... for what its worth.

it sounds pretty decent - better than i would have guessed without hearing it - but i wouldn't say it's any better than one could get with a podxt/revalver/wagner + impulses

OK... after dicking around with it for the last 3 weeks... I'm still stoked on it...

If anyone goes to try one out... crank the master and lower the channel volume... that drives the tubes much more... thing sound almost godly...

I'll post some more clips in the next couple days... :goggly:

To be totally honest, and please don't take offense, but I really don't think this tone is good at all. But when I tried out the Spider Valve I couldn't get it to sound much different than this for high gain sounds, so it's not your fault, perhaps I just don't like the amp.

If you're happy with your tone, ultimately that's all that matters.

The problem with all Line6 gear is that the CPU isn't powerful enough to model distortion accurately. That's why you need to get the tubes going. It sounds just like a miked cab with Line6 sound going through it. The IR is nice, but the distortion isn't....quite there.
