My newest work :/

sounds not that bad, man! vocals are nice, guitars sound a bit "hollow" and i'm not a big fan of the kick, but it's all a matter of taste.

Im only listening on cheap headphones but it's pretty punchy and the vocals sound cool. My only issue is it's a little thin but that could just be my listening environment. Sounds good man.

Hey man doesn't sound bad at all, considering you mixed and mastered the thing in 24 hours that is insanity! Overall I'd like the drums to be a more upfront and hit a harder, it just sounds like they need a little bit more space in the mix as well.

The guitar tone I actually really like for this sort of stuff, I think the reason someone said it sounds a little hollow is that there is quite a big gap in the low mids I think between 100-200Hz that I wish the bass was filling up it would make this track sound massive. Northlane's album has been a great reference for me in this regard, the bass sits in a really cool spot between the kick and guitars.

Ah and I just noticed, some of the edits are a little bit dodgy, it kind of sounds like you've cut the bass and guitar to the attack of the kick drum in the breakdowns and have taken off the pick attack. Considering you only had two weeks to track and album which is just insanity in my book and then 24 hours to mix I can forgive some of it being a bit loose haha.

But dude if this is your first job, that is absolutely mental. Probably the best sounding first job I've heard!

Sounds good except for a few things.

The low mids are completely gone.
and there's this high end fizz on the guitars that's sort of annoying.

Not being a dick, just my honest thoughts, but the mix pretty clearly shows your skewed perceptions that resulted as a lack of sleep and also shows how little time you were given.
It sounds incredibly thin and it's honestly kinda painful to actually listen to it.
Hopefully next time around you're given much better circumstances to work with.

Have a safe trip man

Great job for the amount of time you were given!

I agree with some statements here though, i really miss the low mids, and low end in this mix.. it's punchy enough to make a impact (and it does) but the lack of low end is something that really stands out as missing to me.

I agree with most sentiments to an extent but i did what I could with the time given. The band was really stoked after referencing it their car stereos and so on so it passed. I'd like a lot more sub low end and a touch more low mids but I always gravitate towards a scooped sound, I just like it more. Literally flew out of home two hours after opening this thread and just got into frankfurt :(

I will say again, it is amazing considering how long you had to do it man. Hope you got some rest and hope the tour goes well!

may i ask how the hell did you get to a position where you only have 24h to mix AND master a WHOLE FUCKING ALBUM?

and who the hell thought it's a good idea? or was sooooo incredibly eager to kill his latest creation he couldn't wait even a bit longer?

It's not so much a lack of low mids or scooped mids... it sounds like the whole mix has a HPF filter on at 200hz and boosted 2k-5k. My first reaction to it was yeah, it's kind of painful to listen to. Pretty ridiculous deadline though, I probably would have said no... it's not going to be done!

Sounds ok, but my own 2 main gripes would be the drums seem way too far in the back and the guitars are pretty rapey in the high mids/ highs. Otherwise, considering the timeframe you had mate.. fuck! :P

2 things:

1. what's the rush? if you're done tracking why can't they wait until you come back? mixing and mastering takes a LONG time anyway... in any case i think even the lord himself would consider this a bad idea, doesn't matter how good you are.

2. maybe it would have been better if you didn't say you had 24h to do it, when listening to it nothing really sounds "bad" but my subconscious is constantly looking for defects instead of actually listening to the music. all in all tough, it doesn't sound like what i would expect to hear when told it was mixed and mastered in such a short period of time, so good job!
