i bought it kind of on a whim b/c one of the employees at the local guitar center was trying to get rid of it. not in the best condition, but i thought $900 was a pretty good deal. so far i am liking it a lot - it nails those modded jcm800 tones pretty well. i was worried how it would sound with my mesa cab with v30s since people seem to think they are a bad match for mid/top end of this amp but i think it sounds pretty damn good. def better than the shit marshall cab i tried it out with that had g-12Ts.

update: holy balls this amp is loud! i could barely get past 1 on the volume without murdering my drummer's ears. will have to experiment with the 50w setting...

btw, does anyone have an explanation of how a 100w tube head can be so much louder than similar 100w heads? is it just perceived loudness (due to the midrange character) or is it something else?

I have had one forever and am a Splawn Artist. I swear by it. Pull two tubes and the volume is way better.

It's probably similar if not the same. Pulling a pair of tubes (either the inner pair or outer pair on most amps, check your specific tube layout to make sure) just drops the wattage to 50w.

Mine didn't have the 50 watt option, ala 2008? But the new ones do. I think they still glow though and my Splawn has good tubes so I pull two just to save the wear and have a backup. I also play mine with a Mesa cab and it slays. With a tubescreamer in front, even more.

Here's a rather old video of me testing it out with TS and a Marshall with V30's.

congrats on your splawn quick rod, i have one too and can confirm, its an incredible loud, even in 50W Mode.. i only tend to play it with a power attentuator like Weber MASS or DR Z Airbrake..
i also love the sound, especially Channel 2 Gear 2 is my favourite!!
i also played it on my already sold Mesa Roadking Cab and it sounded great, but wait until you play it on a traditional cab with celestion greenbacks..pure awesomeness!

hmmm mine has a 50w option and supposedly it was built in 2007? anyways i tried the 50w switch yesterday and now i can get it up to about 3.5 without my ears bleeding lol.

are those blue lights on your amp leds or is it from the tubes?

They're cold cathode tubes I wired into it. Looks puuurdy.

the more i play this thing the more i like it.. it is getting dangerously close to replacing my engl savage in my live rig.

Nice! I've wanted to try a QR for several years, but they never pop up at a good price when I'm in the market. I've owned 2 Nitros and wasn't super huge on them, great sounding amps, but I think the QR would suite me a bit better, as it's more high mid heavy than low mid.

I own one also, I have since 2006. They all have the half power switch. And yes, they are Loud as Fuck, don't know why but the thing is, you really gotta get it past 9 / 10 o'clock for it to start sounding Really awesome...unfortunately by the time you get to 10 o'clock everyone else is pretty much def by then...I've owned a LOT of amps...I will never sell this one. I'm actually going tostart experimenting with the half power and porn tubes this coming weekend as the group of guys up playing with one allowed me to use this amp due to the fact that it...as one of the guys put it...tares heads off.

SUPER IMPORTANT...if you run it in half power or pulled two tubes don't forget to run the cab at half the Omhs or you'll have a meltdown!

Congratulations, enjoy it!

Hahahah... that was supposed to say pulling tube......

still getting this thing dialed in but i made a quick kemper profile for fun anyways:

excuse the shitty playing and old strings
