Hey guys,

Was bored today so I decided to do a little cover of Whiskey in the jar, metallica style. Any chance you guys could have a listen to my mix and critique it to hell and back?! I've not done much mixing really, just learning to ropes so to speak! Oh yeah ignore the drums, they're just in there as a guide really as I haven't been arsed to do them today, maybe tomorrow I'll have a play. I'd be interested to know what you think of the guitar tones I've got, as it's the first time I've used a real amp tone rather than a modeller.

The setup is Ibanez RG1570 (stock pups) > Randall RM20B w/ Recto module using direct out XLR > XLR into Toneport UX2 (used a bit of preamp here) > Cubase SX3

It's the Whiskey in the jar rough clip:

Cheers!

no no, it's full on tube lovelyness. it's a modular system. each module is a real tube preamp based on actual circuitry of famous amps - the recto one i used is a model of a mesa dual rec. if you want to swap preamps to get a different sound, you just unscrew them and pull them out, plug the new one in. the poweramp section is all tube as well that can be changed out to suit your tastes. my amp's the small combo one with a 1 x 12 celestion greenback in it. chose it mainly cause of the small size (i don't gig) and the fact that it had a decent recording output via the XLR which means i can get full cranked tube sound without the neighbours knowing a thing :D

There's some nice soundclips of all the different preamps (roughly 15 in total i think) at the randall site:
