Need help clearing out guitar from the center.

I have a mix i'm working on and when i collapse it to mono, i feel like there is to much guitar in the center compared to my reference cd's. Is there a way to not fuck up the sound with weired phasing and clear out the center a bit?

Maybe Mid Side eq? Anyone use this and have luck?

Any other idea's?

mid side EQ works wonders on this kind of thing.

I never check my mixes in mono so I'm exactly sure where the problem is.

I'd try messing around with the middle-mids and/or high-mids of the guitars.

MS Processing, FME never turns out well for metal. *Please correct me if I'm wrong, and educate me a bit on about it as well*

Pan your guitars wider? Stuff that's panned wider tends to be quieter when summed to mono.
