I was cornfused when I heard that album, and heard it referred to as grindcore. I heard it much later than the original release date, like maybe 1999 or something. It seemed like just death metal to me. Yeah, it's killer, but is it really very representative of the genre? I assume it wasn't put out as a grindcore album, but was more seen as pioneering the genre.
