need help setting up MIDI to usb in Pro tools 9

Hi guys.

I have a question about using a midi to usb adapter in LE 9.

i'm connecting a alesis dm5 module via midi to trigger superior drummer.

only problem i have is i currently don't have a standard MIDI cable but i have a midi to USB cable.

if i plug this into a standard USB slot will it find it automatically?
or will i have to find it in pro tools under the midi i/o section?
my M audio midi input already comes up in there but i cant use that one unfortunately.

i've heard it can be done but how?

any help would be great.

what midi interface is it?

you might need to get a driver from the manufacturer's website before you set up in pro tools.


windows typically comes with class compliant drivers and will more than likely be compatible... but it doesn't hurt to do some research on the interface you are using that way you can be up-to-date with it's most current drivers etc. etc. etc.

in most cases pro tools will recognize any serial transmission input to your computer's usb/serial ports... only in complex midi routing will you need to set up the peripherals but it never hurts to be organized.
