need help with adagio,dgm,and brainstorm

Adagio: symphonic power/prog metal. Their first album "Sanctus Ignis" leans more towards power/symphonic, while "Underworld" is darker and more progressive. Both albums are great and feature some incredible guitar playing, as well as very technical drumming, great keyboards, and an outstanding singer. The new album is very symphonic, with lots of orchestration (using keyboards) and catchy choruses. Highly recommended band if you are into Symphony X.

Brainstorm: Melodic power metal with a more aggressive edge. One of the best singers in power metal (Andy B. Frank). They make a great blend of vocals/guitar melodies with heavy guitar riffs and killer drumming. The choruses are very catchy and melodic. All their albums since Unholy (Unholy, Ambiguity, Metus Mortis and Soul Temptation) are kick ass!!! So if you like power metal that is played with "balls" then Brainstorm is the perfect band. Highly recommended!!!

DGM: Neocliassical prog/power with some jazz elements as well. They are very similar to Symphony X not only in style, but also in quality. The guitarrist is amazing, with incredible solos and riffs, while drummer, keyboardist, bassist are all very good as well! Singer has a great clean voice which reminds of a younger Russell Allen (Divine Wings of Tragedy). I would recommend their last album "Hidden Place" and also their previous one "Wonderland", which is a bit more neoclassical than the new one. One of most underrated bands out there. If you like Symphony X, you should also enjoy this band.

If you are a fan of power and prog metal, then I highly recommend all three of these great bands!

Don't know much about DGM, but the comments on Adagio are right on. The Underworld album was, supposedly, more orchestral on purpose as a means to experiment with that sound...sort of a John Williams movie soundtrack meets metal...and in my opinion yielded a pretty damn cool album.

The only thing I would add to Brainstorm would be comparisons as a cross reference...that's kind of hard. I just discovered them, and at this time, I can't really draw any direct comparisons, butthey are not your typical power metal clone. They definitely have that German Teutonic metal sound that the Scorps invented and Accept perfected. Sometimes, I get an Angel Dust vibe off the material, but, maybe cuz I was hoping for something along those lines when I ordered their album. All in all...not power, not thrash...just some kick ass aggressive, yet melodic (and not in a negative way) metal.

Hope that helps!

the DGM album is Dreamland not Wonderland

here is what you need to know........all three are must haves....also I have a feeling at least one (hopefully all three...fingers crossed) of these bands will be at PPV

if you like Adagio...check out Time Requiem and Space Odyssey

if you like Brainstorm....check out Symphorce and Firewind

if you like DGM.... check out...hmmmm.. I don't know ...these guys really have their own sound.....maybe At Vance and....someone else....help??

I like all 3, I only have 1 album from Adagio (don't know if a 2nd is out yet or not) and 1 album from DGM and they're both incredible.

I have 3 from Brainstorm and I can't say enough good things about this band. Soul Temptation has got to be #1 2003 power metal album (at least in my car it is).

As for comparisons, they guys who posted above pretty much nailed it so I won't say anything else aside from you won't be disappointed spending $$$ on these bands.

All 3 bands you mentioned are very talented and my non biased opinion (big smirk :) ) Adagio is simply the best of the bunch! Symphony X might still hold the title in this genre but Adagio is breathing down their neck...they are that GOOD!!! :)

I think Brainstorm is a quality power metal band with some oomph. I really enjoy their music, but I wouldn't put them in the same sentence with Accept. Don't get me wrong, I know you weren't trying to make a direct comparison, but Accept is one of those few bands that has postumously has aged very gracefully. After 20 years plus since their releases, I still spin "Metal Heart" and Balls to the Wall" quite often though I have heard them countless times. I doubt I will be playing Brainstorm in twenty years. Accept had the ugliest human being that ever lived on vocals and wrote some of the corniest lyrics ever put on paper, yet still to this day they continue to kick my ass. Maybe it's just me, but there isn't a very long list of bands that can make "Write a letter !!" (in my best militaryesque gang vocals voice) sound cool, much less make you want to break shit or go beat up your neighbors. I know I'm getting wildly off-topic here, but in the prog forums I rarely see Accept mentioned so I got excited. >:P~

Adagio and DGM = Symphony X worship. Of the two, Adagio is the better band. Excellent guitar work and vocals.

Brainstorm - VERY brutal power metal (bordering at times on "extreme") but with excellent clean vocals. As heavy as it gets without a screamer/growler.

I was talking about the style of the music...mostly because nowadays everyone wants to lump every band into niches like Power Metal or Prog Metal or Symphonic Metal or Death Metal or Melodic Metal or Symphonic Power Metal or Symphonic Death Metal or Melodic Prog Metal or Symphonic Melodic Death Prog Metal or Symphonic Melodic Prog Viking-Folk Power Metal...and I just get fucking sick of trying to make sense of it all...

All in all...Accept had the German Teutonic (Teutonic Metal = almost a genre in itself) sound that made them completely original. It was a sound that Accept had as their own...not punk, not thrash, not especially melodic...just kick ass heavy metal from Germany kinda sound.

Like it or not...the Scorps invented it...Accept perfected it...(maybe Sentenced tried to fuse it with Swedish Doom somewhere along the way)...Angel Dust kept it going...Brainstorm tries to keep it going...enough said...

I never said Brainstorm was as good as Accept, cuz they're not...only that they have the same vibe going...and I sure as shit don't consider them Power Metal...especially when you compare them to a million other bands that have the Power Metal thing going for them, and I think the term is erroneous for a band with their style...but they are certainly are a return to the Euro-German-Teutonic music with a modern metal flair...

Everyone is so concerned about lumping every fucking band into specific categories that they lose sight of the fact that...some of these bands are PLAIN FUCKING SIMPLE METAL BANDS that may (or may not) happen to kick ass).

Jesus Fucking Christ...didn't think I had to justify those remarks....

By the way...I still rock regularly to the old Accept albums (all of them...granted...some are better than others)...but if you're ignoring the contribution that Udo has made to metal with all of his releases, you're really missing something.

Rock on!

My intentions were definitely not intended to be critical and I apologize if they sounded that way. I agree with most of your points as well. Any band that defies classification gets pidgeonholed into power or prog (if they are somewhat technical.) I also agree with the fact The Scorps were the true innovators of that German or Teutonic sound and Accept took it to it's peak. I also agree Angel Dust really had that "something" that just some German bands have as well that really lacks a definition. My argument, though it might not have sounded that way as I was tired and it was my bedtime was that I really don't get that same vibe from Brainstorm. I get it from Vanden Plas, though be it in a more melodic and somewhat progressive format, but hey we are alkl different. As I said, my post wasn't inteded to be critical of your opinion. I'm here to read opinions, express them and make friends, not enemies.

Yeah I own everything Accept has released (less some compilations) on CD less Kozuku Ban which I have on LP. I'll also never say a bad word about Udo or his band U.D.O. either. It's a fine band, and I have two of their releases, but it's not Accept. Up until I was introduced to Jorn Viggo Lofstat (Pagans Mind) Wolf was my favorite guitarist for close to twenty years so I am a bit biased. >:P~ Then again Accept ran it's course I suppose and gave us a bunch of good material, so I won't complain.

Rock on

Kick ass response, Bryant...didn't mean to be so inflammatory. Somewhere I was trying to make a point, then decided to be an asshole...

It just goes to show...you shouldn't spew your opinion after too many beers...sorry!

Anyway...good topic...good stuff...thanks for the debate!

funny how my original topic turned into many different things but at least it draws curiousity:Spin:
The best threads are always the ones that bring out some kind of emotion in someone. :hotjump: I doubt many people would have thought this would turn into an Accept thread. Then again why would anyone be here if they weren't passionate about metal music ? Now what was the topic about again ? J/k.
