First time tracking vocals for me, but luckily the guy is good. :) So far, it's just double tracked almost the whole time, each track compressed, sent to a bus with compression, EQ (hp at 100hz, small cut at 2khz) and some room reverb. They are not where I want them to be at all yet, so any help would be awesome.

instrumental (if it helps)

Also, if you guys want raw vocal tracks to help me mix them with the instrumental version above, let me know. I would be willing but I won't post them unless someone asks.

Thanks.

the vocals seem to be a bit separated from the rest of the mix.
I would try to find a good tube saturation plug-in to take the tone of the screams a bit farther.

basically I recommend turning down the vocals, they're way to overpowering.
if the vocals seem to be way too muddy or undefined turned down, then you need to do some EQ work.
which I imagine you might have to do anyway.

Thanks for the response. I made a few adjustments (not posted yet) like bringing down the vocal tracks, compressing a little harder, and put a saturation plug on (although that didn't really seem to help, so I plan on trying a different one). Good advice though, thanks.

If those are inhales, step 1 to getting a better sound would be to find someone who's doing exhales. They vocals also seem a lot a bit off timing.

COMPRESS SO MUCH MORE :p

Even throw in a tiny bit of distortion in there.

Overall, they just sound like air to me.

The only example of before/after with vocals that i have readily available;

As you can tell, he kinda sucks at vocals.
but you always gotta work with what you're given.

Compress them like 1:8, add stereo reverb 0.5 time, 50% diffusion
add stereo delay 168ms, feedback 40% and 3% dry
