I'm having trouble making power chords sound smoother. I can do single power chords very easily, its just that when I switch them, they sound very choppy...

For example, in King of Terrors, the riff goes from the

"5" to the "4"
3---------2

chord. On the song, it sounds very fluent and almost like MJR is sliding instead of playing two seperate chords. I WANT THAT!!!!

When he does it, it sounds like DUHNUH DUNUH DUNUH!!!!

And when I do it it sounds like DUH NUH! DUH NUH! DUH NUH!!

It sounds WAAAAAAY choppy. Any tips on making this better?

Tips? Yes, slide because that's what MJR is doing I'm pretty sure. At least that's how I do it and it sounds right.

Yeah it's definitely a slide for sure, not two separate attacks like you're doing. If you are using some kind of tab, they don't always express slides in the notation. If it sounds like a slide to you than slide.

Going back to what I said about tapping, you don't have to do exactly what someone else is doing, just do what you need to in order to make it sound right.

good luck

OK same song.... how about this?
-------------------------4--5 |C
7--4--7--4--4--7--4--4--2--3 |G
5--2--5--2--2--5--2--2------ |D
*-----*-----*--*-----*--*--- |Down picking

This part is after "there was to be no more dallying with the king of terrors"

I currently pick on the astericks and slide on the rest. Is this correct? it sounds ok.
