so i started this new YouTube series i call:

"Sweep Like A Janitor"

basically it's "how do sweep" videos that will get more and more complex with time.

here's a link to the first video:

i'll be honest, i'm a complete noob when it comes to video. i have no idea what's right and what's wrong. so i need your opinions about anything related to the video itself (style, light, transitions, angle, edits, sound, guitar tone etc'...)

i know on the 80bpm part the performance is a but sloppy, i just had sooooo many issues to solve, by the time i could actually record i wasn't too fussy about how clean it is, that one will improve on the next videos, since i won't have to deal so much with technicalities.

so really, i'm not trying to spam here just get a better understanding/advice about anything that i can improve (except for performance, i suck anyway)

cheers!

^ PM'd you.

anyone else? come on, don't be shy! it's only a silly guitar video and i'm a noob at this shit i'm not gonna get offended...

I mean this in the least dickish way possible, but if you wanna do an "how to" video on how to sweep you should avoid the most common problems...and that is having the notes spread out unevenly=not really playing in time perfectly.

^ thanks Lasse. as iv'e said, performance is not the best, and i'll give it more attention on the next videos. also, should i add the click sound to the slower parts? it says "80 bpm" and it was played to a click, but maybe it's a bit pointless without actually hearing the click.

again, i'm just trying to get a better understanding on anything that's not done right so that the next videos are better. really, i'm not gonna take any offence here.

I think Lasse´s point was that instead of a "how to do sweeps" video it´s more like a "how not to do sweeps" video. You can´t make a video showing the way to do something and saying "the performance is sloppy but after setting everything up I was too lazy to do it right" because the performance is the most important part in this kind of video, might as well not do it at all. No offense really, just my thoughts after watching it.

Sorry to say so, but performance not best is kind of an understatment. Not saying i'm better than thus though, but i'm not doing an internet video. Srsly forget about the video making issues and try to get a good performance on tape

well if no-one has comments about the technical side of things than i guess it's fine.
it's only the first video out of probably many more so i don't really mind if it's not perfect...
i'll also add a the click's sound to the next vids so that the changes in tempo will actually be heard.

thanks for your feedback anyway, i'll update when i make another video, probably a major or minor 5 string sweep, but we'll see.
also, this might not be the best place to ask since some of you are very talented guitar players, but if anyone has requests for certain sweeps he likes please let me know and i might give it a go (This Godless Endeavor is already on the list)

^ agreed

will optimize performance for next vids. just wanted to know if the video/audio quality and editing is good enough since iv'e never done this before.

true, never thought about it this way.

I don´t see any issues with the technical side, yeah I would add the click track cause it´s good for reference. But you haven´t realised it´s not "not perfect", it´s just bad, that´s like making a how to mix video with a crappy mix.

Edit: your post above agrees so I´m sorry I was redundant, you posted while I was posting this

had a day off, here you go:

so i gave up on trying to capture everything at the same time. meaning video from webcam, audio from interface while the computer generates a click (is that too much to ask?!)
anyway iv'e switched to recording and capturing video separately, and syncing them together later. no doubt about it, tracking to PT is soooo much friendlier than trying to maneuver 3 different programs at the same time...

anyway this is the result, i think it's much, much better than the 1st one, and it was also much faster so i could actually pay attention to performance and warming up...
anyway i need you feedback, although i'm much happier with the result this time, there is still a lot to improve.
