Needing MASSIVE eq?

I must be missing something here....I literally have to cut 20+db in the midrange when I run my EMG-85 straight into my interface with GuitarHack's Original Edge and Catharsis impulses. Is something wrong with my guitar or does everyone have to eq the hell out of their midrange with an EMG-85 in the bridge?

EMG 85 (bridge) -> Audiofire 4 -> LePou's SoloC -> LeCab (GuitarHack original Edge and Catharsis1).

what settings are you using in the guitar chain? The before EQ clip sounds like the guitars are massively clipping. Or is that just me?

I don't think the guitars are clipping. If they do, it's only for a fraction of a second on one of the palm mutes. The guitars without EQ really do just sound THAT bad lol :zombie:

...20+db? That is crazy talk! You way overdid it with the EQ, but the no EQ clip does sound kind of strange for just soloc into those impulses. You should post a DI so we can tell you if there is something wrong. I have heard quite a few EMG 85s in my day.

EDIT: And you're frequency spectrum looks pretty standard to me.

I recently reamped for someone who used an EMG85 in the bridge of a PRS and I had a good deal of trouble with it because a. it had wayy too much boxiness at 400hz, and b. he wanted a bright cutting tone. Listening to your DI's (didn't run it through anything) they sound fine. I would blame whatever you are running it into. The MOST I would ever hump or dip the midrange of an electric guitar or bass is +/- 6dB at any one frequency, which I consider to be pretty "Extreme" EQing. If I have need for more EQing than that in any one frequency range, I've done something wrong.
